Hi. As far as I know, "seriam" is Conditional, as in the direct Spanish translation, so I think the English translation should be:

"The children would be a drag on me, so I want to go without them."

I think you should have left a comment on the English sentence instead. The sentence in English is orphaned, so you can just adopt and edit it, keeping in mind it needs to match every translation. In fact, it would be desirable to have a native speaker adopt these orphaned sentences.
