the construction 他的书太多了 seems to be more widely spread, it give ~174000 results with quote on google against 5 for 他有太多的书, moreover this 5 results are all part of a sentences like "he has too many book to [a verb] (to read etc.)"
So I wonder if it's correct as a single statement.
There are a few possible variations, including your proposed one. But I think the 有 construction is the most appropriate, albeit without the 的 from my original one. I will amend my original sentence.
I don't think I am persuaded by a Google search analysis, though it's an interesting approach.
well actually it was more to support my comment. But as a teacher working here in China, I admit that I've never heard this construction alone. After I'm not in the north of China, so it can also be because of some dialectal influence if I've never hear it. I will try to ask some natives friends what they think about it.
