This isn't likely something a native English speaker would say, I think.
When speaking English, we would use plural, since it's considered 2 continents: North America and South America.
In some languages, it's apparently considered one continent.
When referring to the continents we'd say "the American continents." Sometimes you see "Americas."
I understand why this sentence was created, but I also think we should try to create sentences that represent how native speakers use the language.
