أحتاج < احتاج

Here it is necessary to put hamza because the alif hamza is the prefix of the first person singular in present (in past tense it would be alif without hamza: احتاجتُ الى وقت أطول (I needed more time) because there we use a suffix instead of the prefix, the same as in Hebrew, as the alif is part of the verb form, افتعل)

Anyway, probably it was just a hurry mistake.

Indeed, it was a typo (I was sure I added the hamza, but seems I forgot it).

BTW, you wrote that in the past tense it would be احتاجتُ
I guess you referred to احتجتُ
as there is a sukun above the jim.
