@Needs Native Check.
Personally, I perceive [eng]nice as = [fra]chouette/chic/sympa
Note that we don't say « un homme chouette / chic (in this last case except when it means classy/well dressed.)
to mean "a nice person/guy/man" we say : « un chic type/gars » (only in this order) or « un chouette type/gars » or « un type/gars chouette » (I don't say it this way myself) or « un type/gars sympa » (only in this order)
Note that the order changes according to whether the adjective ends up with a vowel sound or a consonant sound. In the case of « chouette », it can be interpreted as ending either with a consonant sound (that is my case) or a vowel sound.
« gars » would apply only to a men up to his late 30s, since this is the diminutive of « garçon » which used to mean "an unmarried young man"...Past 40 years old, every Frenchman becomes a « type », whether they're married or not.
I perceive [fra]gentil = [eng]kind.
However, it might be that in English, under certain circumstances, "nice" and "kind" might be perceived as strictly equivalent. I'm not sure, only a native could tell.
The German sentence uses "höflicher" which sounds to me as meaning "polite" and thus not being a correct translation for the French. Maybe my perception is too narrow...
I see that Marcelostockle linked the German to the French sentence.
That reminds me that he used to have linking frenzies in languages that he is not native nor very proficient in.
I suggest all links by him should be reviewed, especially when it comes to links outside his native language.
I unlink it.
qu'il est => que c'est
@Yemana
Cette forme-ci est en fait davantage correcte...
@sacredceltic
Pas selon moi :
"C'est un homme gentil." => "Tout le monde dit que c'est un homme gentil."
