I think (in some places, anyway) that's a pretty standard question to your kids before you allow them to eat dinner. :-)
It can also mean "Have you avoided getting involved in underhand or illegal activities?"
Following example from some religious commentary...
Are your hands clean? Is your heart pure? Not one speck of guilt? Not one smudge of failure?
