Once again, English and Frenc don't match.
French says "this story broke my heart" which speaks of me instead of the story.
Which one is right ?

so did this story break "my" heart or was it a heartbreaking story that might have broken many hearts but maybe not mine?

It's not that specific, but probably more the second than the first.
