This doesn't sound natural to me.
Maybe:
"We spent most of our holidays in the countryside."
It would seem to fit both the Spanish and Japanese sentences.
@shekitten Would the proposed English match the Hebrew?
If yes, I want to adopt this and change it to the proposed sentence, if someone can confirm it also matches with the Japanese.
"in the country" is perfectly OK and matches 田舎で and that part shouldn't be changed.
The sentence as a whole sounds less-than-natural to me, which is why I didn't adopt it.
But unless it's absolutely wrong, TRANG has asked us not to change things.
This sort of feels to me that it's either just old fashioned usage, or used in another dialect of English.
