I'd like to ask what is exactly meant by "haven’t mastered".
Is this reffering to a time before the birth of the children, or could it be "don't master" too?

@alexander They haven't mastered the language =Sie sind der Landessprache noch nicht kundig.

It means that a lot of grandparents speak broken English.
