Was ich noch fragen wollte: Gibt es nicht irgendeine elegante Möglichkeit, die doppelte Verwendung des Ausdrucks „used car“ zu vermeiden? Oder hältst Du das im Englischen für unbedenklich? Ist das vielleicht sogar Absicht?

Wouldn't it be sufficient to write: Tom bought his car ... (?)
You wouldn't suppose that a used car dealer sells new cars, would you?

I take the point about using "used car" twice.
There are several possibilities to avoid this:
"Tom bought his second-hand/used car from a reputable dealership"
"Tom bought his car from a reputable second-hand/used car dealership"
etc.
I want to retain the fact that Tom bought a used car, and am happy to drop the second "used car" before "dealership", as it is not necessary and dropping it won't change the meaning.
I'll leave a note on the German and Finnish translations about the change.

I think either would be used in conversation but I can see that the latter might be a bit off. In conversation one would probably refer to it as "his car" or "a used car" as you suggest.

I'm happy to change it to "a used car."
