Should this be now unlinked from all the sentences that say "hot/heiß/chaud" etc.?

I don’t think so. I would never use the word “het” about weather as such. The only instance I can think of is “en het sommardag”, when talking about a period of time with hot weather. Even though “het” usually corresponds to “hot” and “varm” to “warm”, I’d say that in this case “hot”, “kuuma”, “chaud” etc should to be linked to warm.

And about the Finnish sentences: “Tänään on kuuma” and “Tänään on lämmin”. How do you think the should be linked? Personally I’d translate them both as “Det är varmt i dag”, even though “kuuma” refers to a higher temperature.
