I've always used تەخەككۇر. Is that worth an entry too?

kellenparker kellenparker June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 6:19:59 AM UTC link Permalink

This is the same as entry 397310. Maybe this one can be changed to تەخەككۇر?

porfiriy porfiriy June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 6:39:53 AM UTC link Permalink

Hm, I don't really get how the entries link to each other...

kellenparker kellenparker June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 6:43:38 AM UTC link Permalink

They need to be linked by a ranked user. We're not that special.

FeuDRenais FeuDRenais June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 9:50:44 AM UTC link Permalink

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never heard تەشەككۇر before, although I see here that it's a valid expression...

Sure, it should be added. I'll let you do it though ;-)

kellenparker kellenparker June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 9:54:28 AM UTC link Permalink

Alright. If the other رەھمەت doesn't change to تەخەككۇر then i'll add تەخەككۇر.

Meanwhile I'm going to start saying رەھمەت more. :)

FeuDRenais FeuDRenais June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 9:56:36 AM UTC link Permalink

But it's تەشەككۇر with a ش, right? At least, this is how dict.yulghun.com lists it...

kellenparker kellenparker June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 9:58:40 AM UTC link Permalink

I've seen it both ways online, but I really don't know. ش seems much more likely given it's etymological ties to the Turkish and Arabic. I say it as تەشەككۇر but when I saw the خ recently I began to doubt myself. Now though as I think about it, ش seems much better.

FeuDRenais FeuDRenais June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 9:59:58 AM UTC link Permalink

On an unrelated note, are you currently in Shanghai?

kellenparker kellenparker June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 10:00:26 AM UTC link Permalink

I admit I've been copying and pasting for this discussion. It's too cumbersome for a single word to switch between the multiple input methods I'm running. Thus the high number of خ in here.

kellenparker kellenparker June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 10:02:16 AM UTC link Permalink

Just based on this structure, it looks like you translated the Albanian, but then so did the Portuguese, Cantonese and Uzbek entries. Of course "obrigado" also means the same as English "thank you," which means these then have to be linked. That's what I thought you meant, but now I realise you may have just meant the general structure. I got yelled at about it a couple times already, or I wouldn't know either.

kellenparker kellenparker June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 10:02:43 AM UTC link Permalink

I am. Why do yo ask?

FeuDRenais FeuDRenais June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 10:04:23 AM UTC link Permalink

Just that I heard something about the Uighur restaurant on 延安路 closing down... Any idea if that's true?

(I haven't been there since last May)

Pharamp Pharamp June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 10:07:53 AM UTC link Permalink

I'm here for linking sentences. Just ask me!

Porfiriy, if تەخەككۇر means the same, change your sentence, seen that this one is a duplicate (but don't worry, it's not a problem! tatoeba has a script for merging duplicate senteces^^)

Thank you a lot both for your work, and ask for any questions :)

kellenparker kellenparker June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 10:10:52 AM UTC link Permalink

Actually it should be تەشەككۇر, not تەخەككۇر. We were just talking about this on the other entry for رەھمەت.

Pharamp: The Portuguese and Cantonese both need to link to 374827. Probably the Uzbek too but I've never studied it so I can't say so. Thanks :)

porfiriy porfiriy June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 7:40:53 PM UTC link Permalink

تەشەككۇر is probably definitely worth an entry; though on the streets of Xinjiang one definitely hears رەھمەت for more frequently. تەشەككۇر has a very formal sound to it. Like if you were thanking your local cadre for decades of hard work for the Party at the community awards ceremony.

FeuDRenais FeuDRenais June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 at 7:42:33 PM UTC link Permalink

Maybe we translate تەشەككۇر as "I'm very grateful to you."?

kellenparker kellenparker June 3, 2010 June 3, 2010 at 3:00:58 AM UTC link Permalink

If that's the case then we probably lneed to get the duplicate رەھمەت removed and find some entry for which تەشەككۇر is a better translation.
