"exactly once" sounds less than natural.
I want to say that I did not go to the ice two times, or three times, or more often, or not at all, but once, and *exactly* once.
How else would you express that?
I can't say something like “not once”, because that would mean “never”.
How can you not go to the ice once? The number of times you ever went is zero anyway. If you mean you had exactly one opportunity to do so and declined it, then say so.
