Is er een verschil tussen "eind" en "einde", Paul?

Ik denk dat "eind" voornamelijk voorkomt in vaste (oude) uitdrukkingen:

- Daar komt geen eind aan.
- Eind goed, al goed.
- Ze hadden het helaas bij het verkeerde eind.
- Wie trekt aan het langste eind, en wie aan het kortste?
- Eind augustus gaan we naar zee.

In die zinnen zou "einde" echt fout klinken.

Als "eind" een stuk van beperkte lengte betekent, dan is alleen "eind" juist:

- Een eind(je) touw
- Eindhoven, dat is een heel eind van hier.
