Duden kennt nur "gar nicht" als zwei Worte.

Korregiert.

Consider linking this to sentence #3372055

-thx

Alright, will do that in the future.

@Dokuyaku
There is no element in that English sentence corresponding to "gar nicht".

Well, if you wanna be that literal about it then you are right. I guess the more accurate English sentence which would fit this one would be "I don't know and I don't EVEN want to know".

I may have been a bit hasty with my linking suggestion on this one.

@Dokuyaku
You might not have noticed that your sentence is practically linked already to the English sentence since Eldad has provided an exact duplicate of your sentence, the only difference being that he had added a comma: #3624720

It's not for me to decide which sentence to link to another since I'm still new around here.

I just made a suggestion and with what you have been telling me right now about the "even" not sounding natural, I would say you can go ahead and link the German sentence to the English one. Because the translation is pretty much as literal and as close as its gonna get.

Just my 2 cents.

Maybe raggione has an idea how to come up with a better English sentence to fit the German one. His English is probably a bit better than mine.

@raggione

No, I didn't notice that. Sorry.

@Dokuyaku
Sorry, I made a mistake there. Eldad doesn't have "gar".

Give me some time, I'd need to think a bit about this linking job.
The English maybe could be : ... not know about it either.

raggione raggione July 16, 2015 July 16, 2015 at 8:16:36 AM UTC link Permalink

@Dokuyaku
I suppose "gar nicht" is too strong an emphasis in the second half of the sentence, something that's missing in the English. Anyway, that's how I'd look at it. I'd rather not link the two sentences. Thanks for the suggestion and have a good day.

@raggione

Whatever the case, it will be fine.

This will pose as a good example on how literal I have to be in the future when making those suggestions.

And a wonderful day to you too, good sir. :)
