Mi ne certas pri la vico de gramatikaj tempoj.
Mi nur pensas, ke la agadoj de "diri" kaj "esti" okazis en la estinteco, laŭ mia rigardo.

Laŭ la PMEG, ĉapitro 33.8.1, oni ne sanĝas la verbotempojn en nerekta parolado. Do, se mi hieraŭ diris: "Mi tre malsatas.", la ĝusta nerekta versio de la frazo estas: "Mi hieraŭ diris, ke mi tre malsatas." (ne "malsatis" aŭ "malsatus").

Do, jes: estis > estas.
Aŭ eble eĉ pli bone simple: estis faronta > faros
