In fact, this is from The Goose Girl by the Brothers Grimm. In the original, the part „replied Curtken (Kürdchen)“ is missing.

Thank you. I think that in general it's best not to try and link old translations to the original text because they can be quite different from the original text. Andrew Lang probably changed quite a few things so I think it's probably best to treat this as an original sentence.

Still, these are not his own tales. He, at least in some of them, translated the Brothers Grimm. Not recognising some quotes and not checking, I have indeed falsely assumed that they were his tales before.

Because of this, I feel that I would do the best service if I tried to use the originals instead of coming up with my own translations, which could never be so good, and also feel that naming Andrew Lang as the sole author is misleading. Now there are a great number of these sentences—over 300. That is why I felt it necessary to discuss this with you, because I do want to translate them. ☺

I’ve learnt more. These are from Andrew Lang’s Fairy Books: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A...ok_.281901.29.

"I refuse to herd geese any longer with that girl." "For what reason?" asked the old King. "Because she does nothing but annoy me all day long," replied Curdken.
