Yo no fui != Yo no fui quien lo hizo.

Yo no fui. = Это (был) не я. ~ Я этого не делал. = I did not do it.

I think that "Это был не я" is more "No fui yo" than "Yo no fui". Maybe I'm wrong.

Without any context I would hardly ever think that "Yo no fui" meant "I didn't do it". Besides, I believe that your example is ambiguous.

It's very common to say "Yo no fui" in both Spanish and Portuguese when you're accused of having done something. The "do" is very implicit.
