One doesn't believe in a religion, but in what the religion professes...
Religions exist, so it doesn't matter whether people believe in them or not.

So maybe is this sentence a mistranslation?

Seems okay to me.

In which religion don't you believe?

Yes, you may believe in people and their abilities the same way you may believe in Gods and their abilities. But you may not believe more in religions than you do in the existence of men...

Religions and Gods are 2 different things. Religions just are, when the existence of Gods is debatable.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/religion
1.a. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.

So believing in a belief doesn't make sense...

(I was joking... Relax)

(and this usage is okay, IMO)

IYO, it is okay to write nonsense, I already noticed...

Says the kettle to the pot.
