Thanks! That's very curious.

"Burj Khalifa is currently the tallest skyscraper in the world." is the most translated sentence, which is fun. Obviously because of one person's effort.

I also like this one being in the top chart:

Looks like native user's efforts are really important in some cases. :-)

Today marks my first anniversary here. I'd just like to say that I like it here and I like all the members who have been supporting, asking questions and contributing translations and comments to my sentences. I think I'll stay here for a very long time, too. Although I haven't added many Arabic sentences and translations yet, I'd like to inform people who are interested in Arabic that this is on the way.

I'd also like to invite you to translate both my Arabic and English sentences in as many languages as possible.

I like Tatoeba.

* P.S. And I'd also like people who only have bad things to say (with the sole purpose of destroying other people or giving them a hard time just lead them to leave this website) to to keep staying away from me because I'm frankly allergic to those people and what they say.

Thank you, sabretou. I have read somewhere on this website that it is addictive and I can tell you that this is absolutely true. Despite my very busy schedule at work, I do my best to visit as often as possible, and by the way, a year on a fascinating website like this could seem a lifetime. Again, thank you for your message.

شكرا جزيلا يا صديقي.

In my humble opinion, Nyymi's audio is high quality. Looking good! :) I'll be checking them also and making some direct links. Hope they will be useful, and entertaining to people are who are interested in Finnish. I'm planning to buy a good mic at some point as well, so I'll be able to do some recordings.

Alázatos véleményem szerint Nyymi hangfelvétele jó minőségű.
Jól néz ki! :) Én is ellenőrizni fogom, és néhány közvetlen kapcsolatot.
Remélem, hasznos lesz azoknak, akiket érdekel a finn nyelv.
Én is tervezem, hogy vásárolok egy jó mikrofont, így egyszer
én is fogok tudni felvételeket készíteni.

You’re right. The audio quality is very good.
I hope more people bring themselves to record sentences. In fact, there is no need of expensive equipment to get a decent sound quality.
For this purpose, I have just updated the guide to help with the use of the Shtooka Recorder. Anyone interested may use this link to access it:
https://mega.nz/#F!9cEixIAL!A5Al-5OWAzB_VTh0fBl0Ig
Everyone is also encouraged to amend or translate it into her/his own native language as I provided the original files, too, to do so.
Cheer up!

That's curious, thanks for that.

I don't know why, but I was mildly surprised to find 3 Finnish sentences in the chart.

If you ever have time and inspiration, a few more ideas for your charts:

1. Most translated sentences for each language (so that would be "How are you?" for English, "Pardonu min pro mia malfruo." for Esperanto, "Was ist das?" for German, etc.

2. Sentences translated into most languages.

Also, there's one interesting thing in sentences with so many direct translation - and those are indirect translations into the same language. It's like the game of Chinese Whispers.

For example, indirect translations of "Go away":

https://i.imgur.com/pGjX4yv.png

Some of them are obviously related and close in meaning.

But there are also phrases like

Wow.
Terrific.
Brilliant.
Understood.

It's a funny thought, that somewhere out there there's a sentence in some language that can be translated both as "Go away!" and "Brilliant".

Perhaps, they're just mistranslated.

Homographs can often cause such interesting shifts in meaning. In Marathi, for instance, the words that mean 'to read' and 'to survive' are homographs, i.e. different words written in the same way. So a sentence that says "he will read" (तो वाचेल) can also be translated as "he will survive".

Well, it's true.

Btw, it will be good to have a feature which let hide obviously wrong indirect translations.

I'm not exactly new, but that was interesting to look at anyway.

The screenshot from an early version of tatoeba is neat.

The current interface is so much simpler and better.

Well, you own almost 10% of 5 million sentences, not sure though whether most of those were added during those 6 years.

I had read it a long time ago, but I still find interesting how current features that are basic features were not there back then and they were implemented after some time, such as the support for right to left languages, the weekly exports of sentences, or also the possibility to filter the sentences with a specific tag according to a specified language
