Great project!. Enhorabuena!! y animo.
¡Bienvenido(a), ali11!
I'd like to thank Sysko and all others who work on this great website for adding new languages, i think now it is time to be more active.
I'm on the way to add the new languages (3AM here so I'll first go to bed), they should be soon here (I've been busy this weekend upgrading the server, and my personnal server on which I have the test version of the new version of tateba)
5AM here, the languages have been added, only one step missing, to update the search engine in order to be able to search form them (and also to use the "show random in", that is actually based on the search engine)
tomorrow that should be finished
Novian language appears as "unknown" and I can't find it in the language selection lists.
However, great work, sysko!
congratulations, and thanks a lot!
I will take a look at it after dinner, thanks to have reported the issue.
so it's already possible to start contributing directly in these languages now.
Thank you very much sysko. Great job!
Thanks for all of your hard work. :)
Great job, sysko! Thank you!
Awesome. Keep up the great work!
Champagne !
Merci de penser à publier les nouveaux noms de langues pour la traduction dans Launchpad...
Bonne nuit sysko et merci !
Hello. I want to become a moderator.
Why, not, we'll first ask what the other think about you as a moderator, as last time I said that I will involve more the commmunity in the process of chosing who becomes moderator.
actually I've just seen that you're only normal user for the moment, so I think a first step would be to promote it to "advance user" before thinking about becoming corpus maintener.
I agree with this.
+1
Speaking of which, I sent a request to team@tatoeba.fr requesting advance user status almost a week ago, but I haven't had any confirmation of receipt. I was hoping to start tying my sentences to multiple languages soon.
Yes sorry for this, these days I'm managing Tatoeba all alone, and my professional life is eating all my time leaving few times for my hobbies (included Tatoeba)
Last week I've made some upgrade on the servers etc. and added languages and for this week I will try to unpack the long list of emails (included yours), sorry for the times it takes
Thanks. It might be worth setting up an auto-response, just so we know you've recieved it. I was starting to get a bit paranoid about mistyping, spam filters etc...
I've updated to advanced contributor both of your status, you may need to relog.
I'm just having an argument with corvard about Russian punctuation here:
http://tatoeba.org/sentences/show/446725
I AM therefore biased, but I have my reservations.
Ok, i see, there's a problem with a sentence.
But it's not problem.
Well, it would be nice to have a Russian-speaking moderator, I guess.
I'm just afraid you might be overdoing it and correcting sentences that are correct. :3
it's okay to be concerned.
Let him try.

Hi all,
I'd like to know if there's a "list" or "tag", which has already been set up/compiled with short sentences that one can use in virtually any situation.
I once met a Chinese guy that kept saying "It's a piece of cake!" to just about everything I said. Weird example, I know. At the moment my target language is Japanese, but lists/tags aren't necessarily directed to only one language.
Examples of possible sentences in English would be:
You're right about that one.
Not being an expert myself....
We'll have to look into that sometime...
That's cool.
What a laugh!
See what I'm getting at? Having a list of about ten of these at one's disposal to regurgitate periodically would be very handy.
Thanks in advance,
jamesforsyth :)
I don't know of such a list. You can obviously compile a list of stock phrases by yourself using the list tool here.
why not put the "adopt" button where there are multiple translations in the same language, therefore when someone stumbles upon the sentence and knows which one of those translation is the most correct, this person could use the "adopt" button.
Not all sentences are adoptable.
ok ! thanks for the answer, still I hope this website will implement a good rating system of some sort so that the reliability improves, because it as huge potential.
ratings depend on raters. At languages, most users are bad, so the rating would actually lower quality...
what about a section that would regroup the translations done by bilingual users, even if it would represent a small portion of the content it would be high quality and useful for everyone?
actually to my own personnal experience, even as a well-educated French native, I'm pretty sure to get at least 30% of my contributions that contain mistakes, (ok not huge ones, but still)
For the moment we have the "OK" tag, far away from being a long-term solution, we all agree on this. In the future, as I will permit people to enter in which language they're native /not native , and the proeficiency too, maybe too permit the natives to click on a "I think this sentence is correct and natural" and after to get somewhere the list of people who clicked on it (this way one after will be able to check the profile/contribution to see if the guy is reliable, and that will also permit to report abuse if someone fake to be native and start spoiling the system)
so after that will permit one to look for the sentences that the guys X, Z and Y consider as correct (except S that you don't trust)
What do you think ?
People tend to trust people who pretend to have a nationality or proficiency that they don't have.
You don't know what you ignore : to judge whether someone is a good native, the only way is to be better than them...
Internet, and symptomatically, languages on Internet, are a paradise for impersonators.
then possibility for other users to say "X and Y consider Z as a good contributor in French", well after it would be sort of eggs or the chicken problem
possibility to add reference to the litterature then ? even if that's simple sentence then you would something that one can trust (if you put a line of "The times" or a quote from a Orwell book) (that should not need to be exported, so we will still be able to do that as the "for education purpose" exception)
literary references are good, but are no guarantee that a translation is suitable, just that the sentence in itself is correct.
Remember that the first goal of Tatoeba is to be a bank of correct sentences, and that no translation is ever 100% correct and unambiguous.
but we don't want any random correct sentence be linked to any other random one, do we?
Certainly not, but if a sentence is taken from a book, you shouldn't change it at all -- you should only be changing the links between it and other sentences.
If I mistranslated a line from a Zola novel from French into English, you wouldn't want to change the original to match the translation, would you?
Awesome!I think this is exactly what is needed! Thanks for your answers. Can't wait for these improvements.
define bilingual.
Hi everyone, I'm Guido from Italy and I'm here also to improve my bad English. I have just inserted this sentence for translation: "How would knowing another language positively affect your life?" I know the meaning of the sentence but I don't know why it is used "would knowing". What does it means? Thank you in advance.
Dear Guido,
In that sentence, "knowing another language" is the subject, and "would" is there only as a modal verb modifying "affect". So, if you replace the subject by "it", the structure might become clearer:
"How would it positively affect your life?"
I hope that helped.
Welcome to Tatoeba! =)
- André
Thank you very much for your help!!

Hmm...
> 78 blua («blue», Nominative singular)
> 31 bluan («blue», Accusative singluar)
> 34 bluaj («blue», Nominative plural)
> 13 bluajn («blue», Accusative plural)
The same for «white»:
> 157 blanka
> 89 blankan
> 37 blankaj
> 12 blankajn
I guess it would be more useful if you included some morphological analysis (Esperanto being agglutinative, this shouldn't be too hard to implement)...
