When other people link me to a sentence to ask me if it's natural, my GUI language changes to whatever they were using, i.e. whatever was in the link. Perhaps if we set a preferred language, Tatoeba could automatically redirect these links to the language we set.
Are you refering to me :p
But I do agree it's annoying sometimes, we will change it in the new version, so that it will always keep the language on which you were before and the interface language will change only if you manually do that using the form at the top.
You can actually delete the language code out of the link. So for example, I have the interface set to Spanish. Sometimes I might forget and give you this link:
http://tatoeba.org/spa/wall/show_message/4974
But if I remember I'll give you this link:
http://tatoeba.org/wall/show_message/4974
which should redirect to whatever you have the interface set to.
Unfortunately, I think a lot of people don't know this, and a lot of people who do commonly forget.

Should be fixed. But your Google link is missing a question mark I think. It should be search?q=, not searchq=.
Is there any chance we can tag sentences by language/accent? Mine, for example, might be something like "audio:California English."
actually in swac-recorder you can precise this (in the "linguistic region" part of their interface), after it is part of the meta-information of the audio file, so with that we would be able to do so. In the future we can imagine to have the same things has swac-collection.org i.e several audio per sentences, and have the meta displayed directly (in a way or an other)
Is there a reason why email notifications aren't available for private messages?
The real reason is because it would be more problems to deal with :P
Spam is one potential problem, but mostly it's because I don't really like the way email notifications are implemented and I don't feel like adding more notifications before the implementation is improved =/
But well, I guess we could start with sending notifications in case the sender or the recipient is a trusted user. If nothing breaks we can expand it to everyone.
I would really like to see an option to replace the email notifications with a private RSS feed that would include comments, wall posts, private messages, and optionally all wall posts as I previously suggested.
RSS is generally better for notifications than email because it gives control to the user rather than the organization. I trust Tatoeba more than other services I give my email to, but I just don't like getting so many emails. Tatoeba accounts for about half the emails I get. More than once I have missed something important among a large burst of Tatoeba comments...
The only downside I can think of is that it might put more stress on the server, since RSS is polling, unless you use something like PubSubHubbub.
The advantage of the email is that you get it even when you're not signed on to tatoeba.
It's the same with RSS...
Also, just to be clear, I'm not advocating that we remove the email option. For many people, it's easier. But I think RSS is a better solution for people that already have it.
Or we could have the option to have messages sent to one's email address.
In theory, to prevent spam.
Since admins can't read private messages (unlike comments), they can't see the spam.

Even in theory, spam shouldn't present a major problem as each spam message would have to be sent manually. I don't think that would be very appealing to spammers.
>Even in theory, spam shouldn't present a major problem as each spam message would have to be sent manually.
Why do you say that? There is no CAPTCHA or anything to prevent it from being automated.
If it was that easy to spam us, I'm sure we'd have seen loads of spam messages before, regardless of email notifications being available or not. I, for one, haven't received a single spam message on Tatoeba. I suggest just making email notifications available and dealing with spamming once the problem actually arises. I suppose it would be quite easy to just turn the notifications off again.
actually in the past we already had some spammer, but as users noticed nearly as soon as they appeared, most of the time I've deleted them before you actually see them :)
I also agree that email notification will not generate so much spam, but Trang seems to not thinkt so^^
Bonvenon al Tatoeba Crowberin. Kiu estas via gepatra lingvo?
greek: Εσύ πρέπει γράφω λέξη.
czech: Ty muset psát slovo.
romanian: Tu a trebui a scrie cuvant.
polish: Ty musieć pisać słowo.
esperanto: Vi devas enskribi serĉvorton.
russian: Ты быть обязанным запись слово.
turkish: Siz bir sözcük girmelisiniz.
english: You must write a word.
french: Tu être obligé inscrire un mot.
german: Müßen Sie eine Wort verschreiben.
Sorry, but the Russian is absolutely wrong.
Polish is wrong too, but my Polish is too bad to fix it («Ty» and «musieć» are not connected, «musieć» is an infinitive).
The German is wrong too, the verb is in the beginning, so it is a question. Also, German (and Turkish) is polite, other are not very polite.
Not very polite:
Russian: «Ты до́лжен написа́ть сло́во» (Tı doljen napisat’ slovo; pronounced [tı DOL-jen na-pi-SAT’ SLO-va]) OR «Тебе́ на́до написа́ть сло́во» (T’ebe nado napisat’ slovo, pronounced [ti-BE NA-da na-pi-SAT’ SLO-va]).
Ukrainian: «Ти му́сиш написа́ти сло́во» (Tı musış napısatı slovo) OR «Тобí тре́ба написа́ти сло́во» (Tobi treba napısatı slovo).
Belarusian: «Ты му́сіш написа́ць сло́ва» (Tı musiş napisats’ slova) OR «Табе́ трэ́ба напіса́ць сло́ва» (Tab’e treba napisats’ slova).
German: «Du musst ein Wort schreiben».
Turkish: «Sin bir sözcük girmelisin».
Polite:
Russian: «Вы должны́ написа́ть сло́во» (Vı doljnı napisat’ slovo, pronounced «Vı daljNI napiSAT’ SLOva») OR «Вам на́до написа́ть сло́во» (Vam nado napisat’ slovo, pronounced «VAM NAda napiSAT’ SLOva»).
Ukrainian: «Ви му́сите написа́ти сло́во» (Vı musıte napısatı slovo) OR «Вам тре́ба написа́ти сло́во» (Vam treba napısatı slovo).
Belarusian: «Ви му́сіце написа́ць сло́ва» (Vı musits’e napisats’ slova) OR «Вам трэ́ба напіса́ць сло́ва» (Vam treba napisats’ slova).
German: «Sie müssen ein Wort schreiben».
Turkish: «Siz bir sözcük girmelisiniz».
thank you :)
...?
Latin: Verbum scrībere dēbēs.
Tatar (not polite): Син сүз язарга тиеш. (Sin süz yazarğa tieş.)
Tatar (polite): Сез сүз язарга тиеш. (Sez süz yazarğa tieş.)
(Sorry, my previous message was wrong. Yazarğa is correct, yazırğa is wrong.)
For some reason all my Tatoeba messages ended in my junkfile. And here I was thinking that I was getting so perfect that nobody had any complaints:)
Congratulations to Klingon! I'm starting to learn Volapük, so watch out:)
Are you learning the reformed Volapük or the original one?
It must be the original Volapük. The book is from 1888:)
We might have the same book then. :)
My Volapük dictionary+grammar was the most expensive in my dictionary collection (75 €).
If that is your most expensive dictionary then you don't have Krauses Großes Wörterbuch Deutsch-Esperanto.
True, I don't. ;)
I like the original better, unfortunately it's not in use much.
And the reformed one is? :P
Ha, relative to the original, the revised one is spoken all across the galaxy.

Jes, bone.
