Tatoeba day!

http://blog.tatoeba.org/2010/11/tatoeba-day.html

(I extracted the main info below, because I learned recently Tatoeba blog is not accessible in China, since it's using Blogger...)

-----------

When?
Saturday November 13th, from 0:00 to 23:59 (France time).

Where?
IRC channel: #tatoeba, on freenode.

What?
The goal of the day will be to translate, correct and adopt a lot of sentences sentences. I will publish detailed stats the following day, to give an idea of what has been achieved during those 24 hours.

Why?
This event is of course an occasion to be more productive than we usually are, but it's mostly an occasion for members to feel more connected with each other and to have fun! You may also learn a few things about Tatoeba that you didn't know :)

I won't be able to participate. :( I'll be in the train at that time.

TRANG TRANG November 12, 2010 November 12, 2010 at 2:51:01 PM UTC link Permalink

So, Tatoeba day is going to start pretty soon :)

For those who don't know what IRC is, there is a short explanation here: http://tatoeba.org/help

I will not be present during the 24 hours (because I need to sleep :P) but if for some reason you need to talk to me, I should be in front of my computer from 7AM until the end of the day.

I hope to see new names on the channel :)

MUIRIEL MUIRIEL November 11, 2010 November 11, 2010 at 7:52:58 PM UTC link Permalink

Est-ce possible que vous avez par erreur cliqué sur le bouton pour adopter une phrase?

Avez-vous un (ou plusieurs) exemples de phrases dont vous êtes le propriétaire bien que vous ne les avez pas créées? Ça aiderait peut-être à trouver la cause...

GrizaLeono GrizaLeono November 12, 2010 November 12, 2010 at 11:31:28 AM UTC link Permalink

http://tatoeba.org/fre/sentences/show/450905
http://tatoeba.org/fre/sentences/show/450909

Ho! Grâce à la recherche de Muiriel il y a une petite lumière... Je me rappelle maintenant que j'ai une fois trouvé un site de "Movado sen nomo", où il y avait des phrases intéressantes. Je dois les avoir copié... et complètement oublié (après un "interrupt?). L'age?
Oubliez ma demande... et veuillez me pardonner de vous avoir inquiété(e)s.

Dans ce cas il faut cliquer sur l'icône "information" (le rond bleu avec un "i").

Maybe due to some bug (or slow Internet connexion*) your Dutch translations weren't added?

(Sorry, I've got no dictionary at hand to respond to you in any other language :o)

I noticed the same issue for some of my sentences.
I imagine it's fault of the duplicate script - as always :P

arcticmonkey arcticmonkey November 11, 2010 November 11, 2010 at 12:10:05 AM UTC link Permalink

I've noticed that a lot of sentences involving sexuality got a "not safe for search" tag. Why is that? Is taoeba run by puritans? Last time I checked, tatoeba was based in France, not rural Oklahoma.

Frankly it doesn't really bother me much. As long as we're not making content inaccessible to anyone I don't mind letting others set up mechanisms to protect themselves (but more often others) from evil words that may corrupt them. Part of me actually secretly wishes that it gets plastered all over the place, illustrating how ridiculous the practice and its implementation are.

See http://video.google.com/videopl...18149058958603 for an excellent treatise on free speech by Christopher Hitchens in which (at 10:45) he tells a story relevant to this topic.

If the community wants this tag gone, I wouldn't miss it, but understand that some will consider it very useful. It should, however, get a more objective name.

Please translate words yourself, do not use Google Translate and do not translate into Turkish. Because my native language is Turkish and I will translate into Turkish in any time. Because I want to use this dictionary in Google Translator Toolkit. https://spreadsheets.google.com...VE&hl=en#gid=0

MUIRIEL also set up a tag: http://tatoeba.org/eng/tags/sho...ul_for_Tatoeba

Thoughts on the use of tags versus lists are welcome. :-)

MUIRIEL MUIRIEL November 10, 2010 November 10, 2010 at 1:50:22 PM UTC link Permalink

This sentence will be useful, too:

Change the flag, please.
http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/show/611804

And I suggest to create a tag for these sentences with special interest for Tatoeba.

boracasli boracasli November 10, 2010 November 10, 2010 at 4:23:58 PM UTC link Permalink

I'm translating the "How to be a good contributor in Tatoeba" to Turkish using Google Translator Toolkit. It's not machine translation.

Pharamp Pharamp November 9, 2010 November 9, 2010 at 11:34:26 PM UTC link Permalink

To moderators:

As we are many more now, maybe it's time to start to clean, isn't it!?
(also looking for the Tatoeba Day next saturday)

http://tatoeba.org/ita/tags/sho...th_tag/@change

http://tatoeba.org/ita/tags/sho...hange_spelling
http://tatoeba.org/ita/tags/sho...ge_punctuation
http://tatoeba.org/ita/tags/sho...change_grammar

http://tatoeba.org/ita/tags/sho...hange_language
http://tatoeba.org/ita/tags/sho...g/@change_flag

I precise that the "split the @change tag system" is optional, but please use only one of the two "@change language" and "@change flag", as they are obviously the same thing. I propose @change flag as it's shorter (but you know, it's more... political).

I also remember you to wait 14 days after the first comment posted, except for the users who told us explicitly (as Demetrius in his profile or tatoerique, who deactivated the notifications, as far as I know). Of course, it's always better to comment the mistake before any edit.

Have a good time correcting! :P
