When you hover mouse over the tag, a tip appears saying the ID of the user who added this tag. Having the user ID you can find out the user himself, though it isn't straightforward: http://tatoeba.org/rus/users/show/<ID>

Thanks for the explanation. (Probably we should have a sort of FAQ on this.)
It's ok with me. I hope others don't mind.

I'm already an advanced contributor, thanks to you. What do you mean by "moderator"?

The deb package at that page is built for Debian Etch which is damn old. Etch is 4.0 version while the recent Debian version is 6.0. So most Debian desktop users are unable to install this thing. Moreover, it depends on gstreamer0.10-lame library which is no longer in the repository, so I guess it may be uneasy to build and install this software even from sources.

Perhaps, we should ask the author to update the deb package for more recent Debian version.

Otherwise, just for sound recording I would suggest using Audacity.

A feature request.

There are a lot of comments that looks strange after the sentence was changed. It would be nice to see the actual sentence as it was at the moment of commenting alongside with the comment. E.g.:

== Sentence #1234 ==
Some sentence.
== Comments ==
> "Same sentence". <-- The original sentence to be displayed.
Tom: Please change "Same" -> "Some".
----
Mary: Thanks. Done.
----

This would give some more sense to old comments.

http://tatoeba.org/sentences/with_audio/fra should work.

Biga Biga June 7, 2012 June 7, 2012 at 8:52:59 PM UTC link Permalink

http://tatoeba.org/fra/sentences/with_audio/fra gives a list of French audios. You can use a plugin for Firefox that allows downloading all URLs of a certain type (mp3) from the page. There surely should be one, just search for it. Then you have 40 pages to grab, quite a manageable amount for some hand labor.

I can write a simple script for that, but only for Linux or Mac. PM me if you need one.

It would be great to have an option in user profile to enable/disable e-mailing of private messages.

Biga Biga May 24, 2012 May 24, 2012 at 8:02:54 PM UTC link Permalink

I've noticed that private messages aren't e-mailed to the person. Looks strange for me.

If it would work, one could write a client-side script to PM user automatically when '@user' is written in the message. ;)

I mean one should translate sentences figuratively only when there is a good reason for that (i.e. context). Otherwise we would come with the every other sentence treated pervertly.

In Russian, the phrase "иметь друзей" (to have friends) can be interpreted as "to fuck friends" as well. Though, one should be really prurient to do so. The word "иметь" (to have, to possess) is widely used as an euphemism for "fuck".

Biga Biga May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 at 11:27:39 PM UTC link Permalink

BTW, do we have an appropriate tag for that sort of sentences?

Biga Biga May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 at 7:36:34 AM UTC link Permalink

There are several extensions for Firefox that add furigana to any Japanese text on the page and do a plenty of various helpful things. I mean there is no need to reinvent the wheel at that field.

Feature request.
It would be nice to have an option to be informed by e-mail on new translations of 'favorite' sentences. Or - better - add a new category for 'tracked sentences'.

I would personally object to granting Corvard corpus maintainer rights.
He has been advanced contributor for just about a month and I think it is quite a short term to pick up on it.
Furthermore I believe that higher possibilities require higher responsibility -- сorpus maintainer should be very punctual and careful person, and no less important is to be attentive to people. As I see it, Corvard sometimes is quite abrupt in his actions and words.
I honestly believe that he have good intentions requesting for promoting, but this time I would vote to leave his status as it is. I hope he won't have hard feelings about me after that.

It's ok for me. Quite responsive. I rarely have to wait more than 1-2 seconds.

Let him try.

Is it possible to put a flag icon nearby the language-select drop-down box? I believe it would decrease the number of the "wrong flag" mistakes. My bad, I forget it every time.
