عام سعيد للجميع - Happy New Year to everyone

I am pleased to share with you this Doodle because it is related to the Arabic language:

Today’s Doodle celebrates Egyptian pioneer of Arabic language computing, Dr. Nabil Ali, on his 82nd birthday. Dr. Nabil Ali’s innovations in the field of computational linguistics propelled the Arab world into the Information Age by creating programs that enabled computers to understand Arabic in digital form.

@Pfirsichbaeumchen

I still don't think that it's a good idea to add sentences of Jijel Algerian Arabic to Tatoeba's Standard Arabic corpus. Since Algerian Arabic is already available on Tatoeba, this individual could add his sentences of Jijel Algerian Arabic to that corpus. Don't you think so?

Note: I will no longer reply directly to this individual's (Grendayzer) clearly provocative and childish comments and messages.

To everyone:

Please read my comments on this sentence to learn more about Grendayzer's competence in what he calls 'Sicilian Arabic':

This is certainly a good idea, yet I'd like to invite you again to translate my English-Arabic sentences, too. Most of them are short and it would take no time to translate them. Amastan and other members, I suppose, have already started translating this list. Maybe you could pick up where they left off:

https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc...io=&sort=words

The advantage with my list is that it already contains Arabic alongside English and their systematic translation would automatically give you lists where virtually every original sentence is translate into 2 other languages. Let's join our efforts and make our sentence lists available in all the languages we speak. Maybe Amastan could even add Spanish and French translations to our respective corpora and I could personally translate all of your English sentences that haven't been translated into Arabic. What do you think?

OsoHombre OsoHombre October 23, 2018 October 23, 2018 at 7:23:59 AM UTC link Permalink

I'm overjoyed to read this. In fact, ever since I joined Tatoeba, I have been calling for the promotion of Arabic on this website. I'm mainly here for that. My English/Arabic translations will all be available for you to translate:

https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc...io=&sort=words

Most of my sentences are short and easy to translate. I'd be eternally grateful to any person would help me have them translated into Tamazight.

I'd also like to thank soliloquist for supporting this initiative.

Languages should be used as bridges between different human groups.

"يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا ۚ إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ"

"O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted."

Quran: https://quran.com/49/13

Everything that builds bridges and promotes good relations between nations and between the children of the same nation should be welcome on Tatoeba and on every website. And thank God, Tatoeba has all the technological tools for that.

You are doing a superb job. Thanks to your recordings, I am re-learning the language of my parents and ancestors. It's really cool to be learning Tamazight through listening and reading.

عمل ممتاز. واصل!

@MarijnKp

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am sure that this will also promote dialogue and understanding between people of different cultures and religions. If you need any help, feel free to write me.

@Ricardo14

Please have a look at our list named Islam:

https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc.../show/8440/und

This list contains lots of sentences related to Islam and Muslims. I encourage Tatoeba members to visit and translate sentences from this list.

In fact, there are countless books and articles that are being written and translated about Islam. Your contribution to this list would help many translators in their job.

I hope you guys don't mind translating my sentences containing the date June 6th:

https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc...rom=eng&to=und

Note that this is not a "standard date." There are just a few sentences and can easily and quickly be translated. Have a nice day.

Note: All those sentences are translated into Arabic. So your translations would help promote translation from and to the Arabic language. Thank you in advance for your translations.

Could you please update us about the issue of the language flag assigned to Kabyle?

How are you going to let us know about your final decision regarding the Berber/Kabyle flag?

OsoHombre OsoHombre October 9, 2018 October 9, 2018 at 1:14:11 PM UTC link Permalink

The third one isn't good. Just a small green splinter on a blue background. 1 and 2 are much better.

Very interesting, indeed. Thank you for the examples. If you are doing research on that, this book could help you a lot:

Saul Levin - Semitic and Indo-European
https://books.google.dz/books/a...MC&redir_esc=y

I read it in 2000 and I found many more examples about words like this. I am sure that there is an updated version of the book. I really recommend it for you.

This website could also help you as far as English is concerned:
https://www.etymonline.com/

Some words just have interesting etymologies.
