It was an interesting read, thanks!

Of particular interest, I think that the community activities/challenges were motivating. I mean the days when members had to create lists, adopt orphan sentences, etc. does anyone know why it was stopped?

So the recover password function works well.

Having a wrong url can cause troubles though: https://dev.tatoeba.org/eng/users/register) This one (with the parenthesis at the end) gives a "Missing Method in UsersController" error page.

Email addresses with a "+" sign are refused when registering. That's a shame, as it is a very nice functionality for many email providers.

Otherwise, I tried registering another account, to finally test the functionality, and that seems to be working flawlessly.

Somehow, now, my username and email address are already taken. I guess some part of the process went through last time. However, I cannot connect with my usual password, and the "recover password" function does not seem to work, as I don't receive any email, even in the spam folder.

Une ressource en français qui peut servir d'introduction aux langues du Seigneur des Anneaux, avant de lire les phrases disponibles sur Tatoeba : https://zestedesavoir.com/tutor...r-des-anneaux/

Ce n'est pas écrit par moi, et le site qui l'héberge ne m'appartient pas non plus, mais j'y participe, donc si vous considerez que c'est de la publicité abusive, n'hésitez pas à supprimer ce message. Je ne vous en tiendrais pas rigueur.

Good that I tried, since it does not seem to be working. I am redirected to the same page (https://dev.tatoeba.org/eng/users/register), without any error message, but with the "we need to make sure you are human" field empty and the "terms of use" checkbox unchecked.

I tried many times, so I am fairly confident it's not a human error. Firefox v64.0.

Do we need to create a new account? Is there one for testing purposes? I tried mine in case the user database was the same, but it does not seem to be working.

Yes, that turned out to be quite easy to program. Be careful when you connect to the website, there are a few hidden parameters that you need to give to the page, but they all are visible in the source code.

I've done it in python, with the "requests" module. "BeautifulSoup" could help too, but you can do it without it. Even with my terrible python skills, it was not very hard.

Thanks for the app!
I tried translating a sentence, but when submitting it, the app crashed, but the sentence was sent. I haven't tried again.

One functionality that I would like a lot would be a translate page, where after selecting the criteria (for instance Swedish sentence with no direct or indirect translation to French, random order), one sentence is displayed with the frame to write the translation directly below, and arrows to go to the next or previous sentence. Nothing else. In short, a very easy page that would allow translating from the phone, since using the website is not very convenient.

I looked at the source code to see if I could do it myself, but then I remembered that I don't know programming...

What's the official point of view on sentences including several sentences, like 6885582? Should it be several sentences instead?

So how would you suggest one contribute to a language that is not one's mother tongue? How I see it, there are only 4 possibilities, but I might be missing some.
1. Not doing anything, hopping someone else will eventually add a sentence with the word you wish to see.
2. Send a PM to a native speaker with the sentences we would like to add, so that he or she can do it themself after checking this is correct.
3. Add the sentence and let it go, hopping someone will adopt it, and correct it if needed.
4. Add the sentence and not let it go, making sure it is correct and natural sounding, by, for instance, taking it from a non-copyrighted source.

How I see it, each of them has downsides. (2) will bother a native speaker on a more or less regular basis. (3) introduces potentially a lot of orphaned sentences and (4) does not give any proof that the sentence is correct to other users.

Then again, I have been here for only two days, so there might be a better way I just haven't thought about yet.
