And of course you can add free sentences in your native language, so that people can later translate them. This way you will contribute to Spanish corpus with more natural sentences.

Although there seems to be a translate option missing, I am using Linkclump (http://bit.ly/fxonhq) extension for Chrome or Multilink addon (http://mzl.la/fs2cf9) for Firefox for quick opening a list of links in new tabs. This way I can translate them on their dedicated page.

@Dmitry, sabretou;
Thank you all. I experimented soft hyphens on the Turkish sentence. The results were not all that satisfactory but it is definitely a lot better than plain ones. I hope I am implementing them in a proper way. :)

They are not effective on tatoeba's right pane logs. And the word is cut-off at not the best part (too early sometimes).

And one more question: My concern about manual hyphenation was not about aesthetics but about re-using the data, as Dmitry also mentioned. Soft hyphens do not contaminate text-data, do they?

freefighter freefighter August 21, 2013 August 21, 2013 at 10:33:14 AM UTC link Permalink

I agree. But how do we exactly insert a soft hyphen into a web-form? I mean, I can use them in text-editors alright, but how can I add a soft hyphen inside a Tatoeba sentence? Do we need html-code support? Is that where our admins should come in?

freefighter freefighter August 20, 2013 August 20, 2013 at 3:37:42 PM UTC link Permalink

In fact I meant the plain hyphen. But now that you mentioned it, maybe soft hyphens could be a bypass solution, what do you think?

freefighter freefighter August 20, 2013 August 20, 2013 at 3:18:20 PM UTC link Permalink

Thank you for adding the ticket.

On the other hand, the question still remains: Should we hyphenate manually?

freefighter freefighter August 18, 2013 August 18, 2013 at 11:49:37 PM UTC link Permalink

Words which are extremely long cannot be fully displayed on the current website interface. I was wondering if we should strictly avoid manual hyphenation in such circumstances In my opininon we should, but then a solution needs to be found to prevent problems like in [#1532594]. Auto hyphenation may be heavily dependent on specific language, still a workaround could be considered.

I think you should send a pm to Trang to speed up the process. Because sysko says launchpad updates are a bit tricky and only Trang can handle the procedure.

You can leave a note like:

[Please tag: "proverb"
This proverb means if a person becomes very poor, then....]

Generaly somebody will see it.

Another way of keeping track of such groups is creating lists. You can create a personal or public list for adding Finnish proverbs in here :
http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences_lists/index

Hello and welcome to Tatoeba.
You are more than welcome to add proverbs in your native language. Even without being translated into other languages, all sentences are valuable and useful.

IMHO, when it comes to translating proverbs, one should pay minimum attention to literal meaning (Of course this is true when translating ordinary sentences, too). Therefore you are quite right when you say proverbs with the same meaning should be considered equivalents.

At that point you should be reminded that tagging is important. Now that you cannot add tags for the moment, please leave a comment saying so.

You can check these sentences to see how people translated proverbs.

Logs are so unstable for a few days (maybe since the last update announced). And the latest activity frame on the main page has been frozen for an hour now. Plus, online visitor counter is out of order again.

freefighter freefighter July 24, 2013 July 24, 2013 at 1:40:55 PM UTC link Permalink

Is there a problem wit the site? It loads extremely slow and online visitors counter doesn't work at all.

As a core tool, it is very nice. The idea is great. With the intended improvements, I am sure it will be a highly enjoyable tool with a very user-friendly interface Thank you and keep up the hard work :)

Well I believe this is a different problem. In this case the script is actually *working*. But chrome won't let it work properly. Would you please go to chrome's extension page ( chrome://extensions/ ) and make sure that the "Allow access to file URLs" option is checked below the tampermonkey?

freefighter freefighter May 4, 2013 May 4, 2013 at 11:22:03 PM UTC link Permalink

Oh no! Not Black Canvas! It was the first add-on I tried on Chrome and gave me nothing but trouble. Now I use Tampermonkey. Works like a charm... If you have a lot of scripts and won't dare to move to a new extension, then give it a go for only this script. Disable BCanvas temporarily and try TamperMonkey to experiment the script.

By the way I was referring to Windows 7 + Chrome. Things could be different with MacOSX. :(

About the need for reinstallation I mentioned above, I don't mean for this specific script. Due to many reasons, scripts may stop working some time. And reinstalling would do the trick for me. :)

@AlanF_US
Well, you seem to be really absent minded, for being unaware of a script for which you had left a comment on the userscripts.org a few weeks ago. :)) Aren't you and the AlanF_US the same person?: http://userscripts.org/scripts/discuss/118538

The code may or may not be based on the initial works of Zifre, but the script I'm talking about is in jakov's library now.

By the way I added detailed instructions on how to use this script to the wiki page (http://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/arti.../user-scripts) and it looks fine to me :).

@sacredceltic
It still works for me. Sometimes either the add-on(greasemonkey, tampermonkey etc.) or the script itself needs to be re-installed.

freefighter freefighter May 4, 2013 May 4, 2013 at 12:56:25 PM UTC link Permalink

I have been using jakov's script for a very long time now, and I find it the most convenient way to link sentences which are totally apart. I have to admit, I thought anyone who is familiar with Tatoeba (AC's and CM's) were all using it actively :) .

If admins are convinced to include a guide (in wiki?) on how to use such scripts (in particular jakov's) , I can prepare one in English and Turkish.
