Hello Rav, welcome to Tatoeba. It is good to see another contributor of South Asian languages. Please go through the "Help" (https://tatoeba.org/eng/help) and "Quick Start Guide" (http://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/arti.../quick-start#) pages.

In addition to what cueyayotl said, when in need feel free to leave me a pm. Although I haven't translated much, hopefully I would be able to help you in not so tricky situations.

Happy translating!

Well, what do you know! I don't see the problem now, even with the search options that I had used before. I really don't know what happened before.

AlanF_Us and CK, thanks for the suggestions. I used your search options, and I faced no problems. Thanks a lot.

A question regarding Advance Search option:

I searched for Sentences in English which are not Orphan and Not Unapproved and Owned by a Native having tag "past simple".
I want to exclude those sentences which have already been translated into Bengali.

The thing is, the search is returning English sentences with the tag "past simple", some of which have already been translated into Bengali. Some of the translated sentences are not showing in the search, while some are there.

I hope I am making myself clear.

Here is the search option:

Am I missing anything? Is this suppose to happen when I give a tag in the search? Or is it a bug or something?

If there is already any discussion regarding this in any page or post, could anyone please give me link(s)?

Thank you
--- Tanay

Anybody else seeing this in the Browse by Language page?

"This page is disabled temporarily, until we find a solution to make the website faster.

Sorry for the inconvenience."

Was there any notifications earlier regarding this?

Anyone online? Is there any problem with the server? It's taking a bit longer than usual to add sentences or translations or opening a sentence.

EDIT 01 (about 5hrs later): I am still having the problem. I have checked other websites, but there are no similar problems there.

Someone knowing Arabic and trying to learn English would learn the Latin alphabet first, isn't it? I think a beginner level learner of English without any knowledge of the alphabet would be able to get any kind of help from Tatoeba, even with the transliteration. But then again, I am not an expert on language teaching methods.

As for the Japanese transliteration, Kana is good enough, I think.

The only languages which need a transliteration system are the ones using the Chinese characters and those which do not have their own writing system.

BTW, I am not getting into any kind of heated debate. I am just sharing my thoughts. :D

Isn't the writing system, along with the pronunciation, the first thing someone learning a language should learn (except in cases where the language does not have its own writing system, as sabretou mentioned below)?

Umm, I might be missing something, but why do we need transliterations for any language (except may be for languages using a logographic writing system)?

Thanks for the reply. I can live with the decrease in the number. ;) :D
I have sent a request to join Bengali team, and to hope to contribute more to the translation.

From what I read from the tatoeba blog dated Nov 11, the translation platform has been moved from launcpad to transifex, and the translations that were made in Launchpad were exported to transifex. But I could not find the Bengali translations that were made in Launchpad.
(If this problem had been discussed in any other thread, please direct me to that thread)

নমস্কার!
How is everyone doing?
I have been away for sometime (last time I contributed something was way back in June). I can see that there have been some changes in the looks of the site. But are there any changes made in the way the site works? Thanks

Two thumbs-ups, specially for " . . .new items to the user menu . . . " and " . . . added a form in the "Translate sentences" page . . ." :) Well done.

Hi, I am having a problem with editing my sentences. I cannot edit them, neither can I add any translations to them nor can I use any of the options given above a sentence (like "add to favorites", "let go", "add to list" etc.).

Edit: It is the same for old and new (not indexed) sentences.
