If anyone's interested, I wrote about how Tatoeba started: http://blog.tatoeba.org/2013/05...f-tatoeba.html
Thanks for the interesting story, Trang! :-)
An inspiring reading I really enjoyed. Would like to read more of this kind. ☺
Thanks,Trang!:)
Great post, Trang! Perhaps you could show us a picture of the old Tatoeba! :-)
On the Sourceforge website there is a screenshot of the "prototype" version of Tatoeba ^^

I don't have so many screenshots of the older version though...
I've uploaded some here if you're curious: http://imgur.com/a/NIC1S
That's how Tatoeba looked like before the way it looks like now.
I love the "visual code" idea. Metadata resources would be a huge quality leap in our beloved sentences.
If you're talking about how in the image the word "power" was highlighted in each language, I agree, that would be awesome.
Yes, but not only that... metadata would allow us to classify words (e.g. noun, adjective, verb, etc) and add hyperlinks between two sentences. In any case, it would probably improve our search engine.
You should read about Trang's visual code in this document:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/...cnM/edit?pli=1
Sometimes it's not easy to tell if "power" is a verb or a noun, especially for non native speakers. There's just too much we could do with metadata...
OK, "power" is not a good example at all. In fact, I was thinking of the French verb "pouvoir", which can also be a noun.
Hi TRANG, i would like to add a new language (Algerian arabic or "DZIRIYA"). I've sent a message but I didn't receive any reply. PLease what should I do to make you accept my request.
THANK YOU.
Hello kouriet15, I replied to your email 3 days ago. I'll copy my message here:

Before we add a new language, we want first to have at least some sentences in that language. So basically, you need to find some sentences to translate into Algerian Arabic. You will not be able to indicate that your sentences are in Algerian Arabic, because the language is not added yet, but you can set the language as "unknown".
Then to make things easier for us, we're asking you to put the sentences in a list. You will have to create a list from here: http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences_lists/index (in the right side column). Then you can add your sentences to the list by clicking on the icon http://flags.tatoeba.org/img/add_to_list.png.
In the meantime I have added your request on the language requests page: http://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/arti...nguage-request
