Hello,
I'm trying to quantify what makes a sentence good example for language learners. For this study, I'd like to ask everyone of you to pick 5 sentences you believe are good examples to be used, let say, in a textbook, during a class etc. To make the study simpler, please focus on English sentences for now. It would be wonderful if you could motivate your choice too.

Also, please avoid discussing the question publicly, as we want to avoid people converging to same answers initially.

Here is the form : http://goo.gl/Gnlg51

harshnisar,

I think your question is far too open-ended to get any sort of serious answer. In my opinion, you need to focus on just one specific problem, something like 1) when to use the definite article, the indefinite article or no article at all, or 2) principal parts of strong and weak verbs, 3) prepositions, or 4) subordinate clauses, etc. If your domain is sufficiently narrowly scoped, you should get sentence suggestions that might serve as quite useful examples.

Kind regards,
Objectivesea

As far as I understand, harshnisar's goal is to actually discover what specific problems (ie. what to focus on) do people have by analyzing the results of this survey—because either he doesn't have access to expert knowledge of the kind you suggest or he wants to compare experts' findings with common people's opinion.

To put this into more context, harshnishar's goal is to eventually build a system for mass importing into Tatoeba sentences from open texts. We want to feed the database with more sentences, but we don't want to pollute the corpus with bad/useless sentences so I suppose his poll here, aims to figure out criterias to rate a sentence, that he can use in his algorithm to extract good sentences in a text.
