** Website translations **

I'm calling for a bit of attention, to those who regularly translate the website interface or are interested in translating it.

We're planning to move away from Launchpad and use another platform called Transifex. Since there is no simple way to contact translators in Launchpad, migrating to a new platform means we may lose some translators on the way.

I'm making this announcement to make people aware, so that we don't find ourselves with no translators at all once we have migrated to Transifex.

If you are interested on helping us out with the website translations, even if it's just for a few translations, please fill this form, it won't take you too long: http://goo.gl/forms/xTNUcHDg6s

Thank you!

Just a heads up, I'm planning to close Launchpad translations this weekend, probably on Saturday, or maybe Friday evening. You can still translate on Launchpad don't worry, whatever you translate on Launchpad won't be lost. I would suggest however that you wait until this weekend.

Once I've closed the translations on Launchpad, people who filled the form (http://goo.gl/forms/xTNUcHDg6s) will be invited to Transifex.

Below is the current list of translators.
- tommy_san (Japanese)
- Pfirsichbaeumchen (German)
- Silja (Finnish)
- sacredceltic (French)
- sadhen (Chinese)
- PaulP (Dutch, Esperanto)
- gillux (French)
- Guybrush88 (Italian)
- Wallebot (Spanish)
- ficion (Spanish)

There will be some new strings to translate. Translators will have the weekend to start translating them and get familiar with the new platform.

How about the Basque, Hungarian, Plattdüütsch, Low German, Polish, Portuguese, Tagalog, Turkish, Greek, Russian, Arabic and Marathi translators? I think we need a broader call than a simple post on the Wall. I’m sure there are people willing to translate even if they are no more browsing the site regulary.

If you are thinking about sending an email to all Tatoeba members, it's a possibility, but we currently don't have the infrastructure for it.

What I had in mind was to add a link somewhere on the website, maybe below the footer, or maybe right next to the language selector: "Help us translate the website interface", or something. But only after we move to Transifex.

I'm also sure there are more people willing to translate, but I'm not expecting to have a complete team of translators before moving to Transifex. We'll start with the active people, and the rest will join later on.

There's one more translator by the way:
- sabretou (Marathi)

Oh, and I'd like to add that if anyone has time to help and find the missing translators, please go ahead.

Missing translators in:
- Basque
- Hungarian
- Low German
- Polish
- Portuguese (BR)
- Tagalog
- Turkish
- Greek
- Russian
- Arabic

I have closed the translations on Launchpad and invited everyone who filled the form.

I have also updated the corresponding article in the wiki:
http://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/arti...ce-translation
The article may lack information though. I am discovering Transifex at the same time as everyone else. If you have write access to the wiki, feel free to edit the article to make it more complete.

Next Tatoeba update is planned on November 11.

Would you consider providing screenshots so that we can know the contexts in which strings are used?
http://blog.transifex.com/post/...s-in-transifex

That would really help those of us who can't read codes.

I would love to, but it would be quite time consuming.

When the translation is really problematic and I have time for it then yes, I can try to provide a screenshot for the specific case. But I cannot do this for every string.

When the admins don't have enough time, then translators can help each other. If cvbge asked a question about the string "Lang", I could tell him to see the page http://tatoeba.org/eng/downloads. That would be probably enough. It would be great if other translators could see the comments as well when they translate the same string. Where is the best place to do this kind of thing?

Tip for those who are new at UI translation: It often helps to take a look at the "occurrences" of the string. When you see, for example, https:// github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/tree/master/app/views/pages/downloads.ctp:96:, visit https://github.com/Tatoeba/tato.../downloads.ctp and see line 96. You might be able to guess what it's about.

I tried to create a discussion on Transifex. It could be a possible place for translators to help each other figuring out where the strings are.

Wallenbot, are you a member in the Tatoeba's team in Transifex? I think you need to be one to get access to the discussions.

Now, yes. I am member and can see.

I think this after I write the problem.
Many thanks.

Are all of these texts actually used in the project? Anyway, some of them look strange. Like "Lang", for example. Doesn't look like an English word, and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be translated. But screenshots or whatever would definitely help.

Not all the strings are used on the online website, not yet at least. But they will be used once we do an update.

The "lang" that you are talking about is probably part of the "Downloads" page:
http://tatoeba.org/eng/downloads

How can I apply to translating to Lojban? The form is closed.

Here is my profile there: https://www.transifex.com/accounts/profile/Gleki/
