** Tatoeba update (November 16th, 2014) **

http://blog.tatoeba.org/2014/11...16th-2014.html

# Link to any sentence

This new feature affects only advanced contributors and corpus maintainers. It is now possible to link a sentence to any other sentence, and not just to its indirect translations. You will find an additional icon in the sentence's menu, which looks the same as the "link" icon[1] next to the translations. Clicking on the button opens a textinput where you can indicate the target sentence.
You can enter either the sentence number or copy-paste the sentence URL.
You can also drag-and-drop a sentence's URL into the icon.

# Linking and unlinking refreshes all the translations

There were some inconsistencies with the list of indirect translations displayed after linking or unlinking a sentence. This is now fixed. Whenever you link or unlink, you will see the correct list of indirect translations without having to refresh the page.

# Contributions logs

The logs design have been reviewed to take into account the various feedbacks. If you do not see any change, try to empty your cache and/or refresh again.

Note that the date is now clickable and will redirect you to the sentence's page. The sentence will be left as a text so that people can copy-paste it - or part of it - more easily.

We won't implement any option to choose between the new and old design, but for those who are very attached to the old design, here's some CSS code that you can use with the Stylish extension.
Our member CK also has a page about using Stylish with Tatoeba, with some code snippet that you can reuse.
I encourage you to learn about CSS and customize the looks to your own taste, not only for the logs but for any other part of Tatoeba. And if you do come up with something that looks a lot better, don't hesitate to share with the rest of the community!

# Search fix for sentences translated into the same language

If you ever tried to search from and into the same language (for instance search "fish" from English to English), you may have noticed that the results includes many sentences that do not have any translation - if you wonder, yes, it's possible in Tatoeba to have two sentences of the same language linked to each other.

This kind of search now only returns sentences that do have translations. So searching "fish" from English to English will only return sentences that have at least one direct or indirect translation in English.

This update also fixes an annoying bug that prevented people to send comments, wall posts, translations, private messages etc. whenever the interface language was changed from a different place than the page you were submitting from. The symptom was a never ending loading icon that replaced the text you wanted to submit, while nothing was actually submitted.

gillux gillux November 16, 2014 November 16, 2014 at 11:51:40 PM UTC link Permalink

En fait, j’ai eu droit à l’erreur moi aussi, et sans me trouver dans le cas que j’ai décrit. En cliquant sur l’icône pour lier une des traductions indirectes, la liaison s’est bien faite mais l’erreur a été tout de même affichée. Je n’ai pas la moindre idée de ce qui se passe.

gillux gillux November 17, 2014 November 17, 2014 at 12:31:25 AM UTC link Permalink

J’ai localisé le problème. Ça se produit quand on lie des traductions indirectes sur plus d’une phrase dans la même page, en cliquant sur l’icône à côté. En attendant qu’on corrige le problème, préférez lier les traductions indirectes en faisant un glisser-déposer sur le l’icône du haut.

This is great! Thank you! ☺

One suggestion: when you click on the chain icon in "Link to any sentence", could I be possible that the cursor would move automatically to the field where you add the link to a sentence or sentence number? It will save only one click, but at least I use this functionality so often that it will soon become hundreds of clicks.

Will do. If you use a mouse, drag-and-drop might save you even more clicks and don’t require you to remember numbers. It’s also possible to drag from a tab and drop to another: just drag on a tab header (while not dropping) and the browser will switch to that tab.

I don't know if someone tried to fix the bug sacredceltic reported, but now the "Linking and unlinking refreshes all the translations" feature is not so good anymore.

Now if I link one of the indirect translations to a sentence while browsing for example search results or my own sentences, it forces me to open the sentence page of the sentence where I'm about to link the indirect translation. Added to the fact that now I can't anymore link fast to several indirect translations, but I have to wait the page to be downloaded again each and every time I link (and on top of that I'm moved to the top of the page, away from the location I was before I linked), linking has become incredibly slow and too inconvenient.

No more linking for me until this is fixed. :(

We’re working on it. In the meantime, you can drag and drop indirect translations onto the “link to any sentence” icon instead of using the currently broken link icons next to each indirect translation.

sacredceltic sacredceltic November 19, 2014 November 19, 2014 at 3:17:03 PM UTC link Permalink

J'ai compris pourquoi !

J'avais une vieille extension "Tatoeba select sentences" de je ne sais plus qui, qui était activée et qui interférait. Je l'ai désactivée et maintenant je peux balader les phrases !

C'est de la balle !

sacredceltic sacredceltic November 21, 2014 November 21, 2014 at 11:17:25 AM UTC link Permalink

Le petit défaut de ce système, cependant, c'est que lorsqu'on possède beaucoup de phrases, on tombe souvent sur les siennes propres, et celles-là, on ne peut pas les faire glisser, parce qu'en cliquant dessus, on rentre en mode d'édition...

N'y aurait-il pas une astuce ?

If I understand properly...

1. You are for instance on this page: http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentence...rom=fin&to=jpn
2. You click here: http://prntscr.com/57j51d.
3. And instead of staying on the search page, you are redirected to the page of the Japanese sentence (#3488029)?

If this is what happens to you, then it's something I was not able to reproduce.
In any case, does clearing your cache change anything?

No, he would be redirected to the Finnish sentence, not the Japanese one. This is happening to me as well, I have to click back after every time I link a sentence, or middle-click on the link button so that it opens a new tab that I can close.

Yes, I'm redirected to the Finnish sentence and get on top of the page the message that sentence #111 and #222 are now direct translations. I've already cleared cache, but it didn't work.

Edit. Now that I forced reload without cache it's working again just fine.

Why is it always me who has all these problems with cache... :(

It's not just you. Everytime I did an update with changes in the CSS or Javascript, people have complained about issues that got solved after they cleared their cache.

Could you please restore ability to tag clean up for advanced contributors. I found that it was available earlier but now I can't remove any tag (or I do something wrong). There are many russian sentences with tag "@NNC" which need removing that tag (as suggested from many native speakers).

If you're advanced contributor, you have the ability to remove your own tags, not other people's tags. Only a corpus maintainer can do that.
