** Tatoeba Day #10 **
Tatoeba Day starts now and as usual will end in 24 hours!
If you don't know what Tatoeba Day is about, you can find information about it here:
http://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/arti...ow/tatoeba-day
The rules remain the same as usual but for this Tatoeba Day, I would like to raise awareness about one thing.
Tatoeba hugely lacks developers. For those of you who have been participating to the previous Tatoeba Days, you may have noticed that the number of opened issues keeps increasing time after time. There is a lot more suggestions and bugs being reported than there are people to implement/fix them.
Therefore for this Tatoeba Day, I would like us to have a bit more focus on solutions to find more developers to work on Tatoeba.
Maybe you have programming knowledge yourself and could possible help for certain things? Maybe you know people who would be interested to code for the project? Or maybe you have some ideas of how to attract developers?
If that is the case, then let me know!
Happy Tatoeba Day!
1st request:
► https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/651 "Allow rich text in messages"
2nd request
► https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/334 "Button to copy a sentence into clipboard"
I have started an implementation for this. I've used clipboard.js so it will not work for Safari.
The feature has to be enabled in the settings:
http://prntscr.com/8xiiix
The dev website (http://dev.tatoeba.org) has been updated so you can test the feature there.
Thanks a lot, Trang! It works perfectly!
It works, but it should really have a tooltip. I see one for the audio icon, but not for the new one.
A way to remove a single sentence from a list, without having to browse through the list.
We now can see which lists the sentence belongs to. How about a link to remove the sentence from the list (if the list is ours, or is collaborative).
Also, language filter for lists.
[Removed by CK. This link was no longer valid.]
It definitely helps :) thank you!
@cueyayotl I opened a ticket for this -> https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/895
How about automatic capitalization of the first letter for new sentences in the languages that have capital letters? It would be easy to code, I think but it would save a lot of time for corpus mantainers since there will be no need to change them.
I opened a ticket for this - https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/896
Request #1: https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/677
"Private lists"
Request #2: https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/334
"Button to copy a sentence into clipboard"
Request 1 will be too long to implement today.
For request 2, cf. my reply to Ricardo:
https://tatoeba.org/eng/wall/sh...#message_24758
Contribute >> Translate Sentences >> Display random sentences
Would it be possible to add more possibilities? 20, 35, 50, 75, 100?
Quite often 15 has not been enough.
[not needed anymore- removed by CK]
That's definitely good for translation purposes, however sometimes when studying languages with others, I search random sentences often to find a structure with which I am not familiar with in the target language. I usually have to refresh the Display random sentences a few times before finding anything.
There used to be a warning message after clicking the translation button. Something like "Are you sure you understand this sentence? If not you should return and choose the sentence in a language you understand and want to translate... Please don't forget the punctuation and the capital letters." Unfortunately I don't remember the exact wording anymore but I guess this message might be stored somewhere in the Launchpad archive because it has been translated into many languages.
Somehow, I believe it should be restored. It would prevent the newcomers of doing the bad linking, as is the case in 50% of new users' entries.
We removed it because it was actually not very efficient. Users in general don't read such messages.
If we want to prevent newcomers of adding translations to the wrong sentence, we need to think of a better interface for doing translations.
Why not forbid the new users to translate from the language they didn't mention in their settings? Maybe it would help them to understand how the system works. It could be even a temporal restriction. For example, first two weeks they are meeting with the site and we just prevent them from making mistakes.
That's a good idea.
I've created an issue for this:
https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/897
OK, but possibly it was just better than nothing. It seems that things have gotten worse since then.
Tatoeba Day is now over. Thanks for your participation!
Tatoeba will be updated on November 3rd.
https://github.com/Tatoeba/tato...nes/2015-11-03
Next Tatoeba Day is scheduled on November 14th.
Thanks a lot for your commitment to Tatoeba! And also thanks to all the developers!
