** Tatoeba Day #17 **
Tatoeba Day starts now and as usual will end in 24 hours!
If you don't know what Tatoeba Day is about, you can find information about it here:
http://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/arti...ow/tatoeba-day
Since the last Tatoeba Day[1], the format has changed a bit. There was not a lot of activity during the last Tatoeba Day so I'm reminding it here.
Previously, Tatoeba Days were revolving around users submitting requests. From now on, we want to focus more on the idea of reporting issues. More concretely, when you are suggesting an improvement, instead of simply describing what the improvement would be, tell us as well what is the problem that you had, that pushed you to suggest the improvement.
The wiki article has been updated accordingly, and therefore I encourage again those who are already familiar with Tatoeba Days to read it, especially the section "About reporting issues":
http://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/arti...porting-issues
I am currently working on writing a more detailed guidelines about submitting issues. I hope I can publish them before the end of Tatoeba Day.
Meawhile, feel free to report any issue you want during this Tatoeba Day, by replying to this thread.
I would appreciate as well that all the people who participated to previous Tatoeba Days can take a look at their requests, and improve them in order to add a description of their original problem.
You can find below the list of things that were requested during the previous Tatoeba Days:
https://github.com/Tatoeba/tato...tus%3Aaccepted
You can either comment directly on the issue on GitHub, or you can also reply to this thread, and mention the link to the issue on GitHub.
If you didn't make any request in the previous Tatoeba Days, you can also help by looking at other people's request, and if it is something that you also wished we would implement, you can improve the request by explaining why you need it.
Last but not least, in preparation of our next Tatoeba update, we will also need people to test as many things as possible on the dev website (http://dev.tatoeba.org). The dev website has been updated to include some changes that gillux did recently. There is just one new feature[2] but the rest are changes that aim to make the code cleaner. The code clean up may have unintentionally broken something, which is why we need people to help us test that everything still works properly.
Thank you for your participation and happy Tatoeba Day!

[not needed anymore- removed by CK]
+1, there are reported bugs from 2014 that haven't already been tackled (an example: https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/307), along with more serious issues, like this diacritics-related issue: https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/863
Today I will personally be focusing on improving our issues. I for sure won't have time to also take care of fixing bugs.
We can have another Tatoeba Day where we can focus more on bugs.
One more thing for this Tatoeba Day: the homepage.
This issue was created by CK back in December:
https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/947
Kamillel, who recently offered to help us on user experience issues, has posted a draft of how we could change the homepage to make it better for first time visitors:
https://github.com/Tatoeba/tato...ment-186806456
Feedback is welcome!
You can post your feedback directly in the GitHub issue, or reply here in this thread.
I like it, especially the search bar. I find that putting that information right below the search bar is very useful, mostly for new users, who aren't much familiar of the search feature
I'm going to work on a new homepage. I'm not a professional Designer, but I have read hundreds of books on the subject. When I finish it I'm going to post it on GitHub for feedback.
Alright! Welcome onboard then :)
Make sure you're following the discussions on https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/issues/947 so that you can have all the necessary information for your design.
Just for clarification, are you going to work on the UX design, or on the graphics design?

UX Design :)
I can work on everything, but it will take some time. I'm already following the discussions on Github.
I have added into our GitHub wiki the guidelines for submitting issues:
https://github.com/Tatoeba/tato...mitting-issues
Here as well, feedback is welcome.
On a side note, if someone sees a problem with having this article in the GitHub wiki[1] rather than the main wiki[2], please let me know. I created it in the GitHub wiki because it made more sense to me to have it there.
Main wiki = documentation for users
GitHub wiki = documentation for developers or people working with developers (there are some articles I'm planning to move from the main wiki to the GitHub wiki)

Tatoeba Day is now over!
Thank you all for your participation. I'm happy to see new members getting involved in the project :)
The next Tatoeba Day is scheduled for March 6.
