I'd like to get an idea of the types of searches that people here do. Several questions:

(1) Do you tend to use the regular search (found at the top of every page), advanced search, or some mixture of the two?

(2) If you do advanced search, do you tend to use the same settings for the overwhelming majority of your searches, or do you change them from one search to another?

(3) If Tatoeba were to automatically reuse all the settings that you used on your last search unless you changed them, would this make things easier or harder for you?

I realize that people who are not registered users will not be able to respond. However, hearing from everyone else will be useful. Thanks in advance.

That doesn't really answer my question, but thanks for the response.

That's a question with a WIDE range of answers, I think.
When I search only a word or a group of words, regular search
When I proofread a user contribution, advanced search to get all French sentences of a specific user.
When I translate, I have my own URL that I just copy paste. That's actually an advanced search returning sentences without names (too many of those).
When I do other corpus maintenance stuff, direct links in my profile page (NNC, orphan sentences, @change).
When searching sentences with tags, I usually go through the page of the list of tags.

I think I didn't forget any functionality...

So for me, I don't see how "caching" my search settings would help, or would even be possible. There is only one point that would save me two seconds : pre-selecting the sort order of the advanced search to "Last created first - inverted" because that is what I used most of the time when I open the advanced search page. But the gain would be quite negligible...

I see. Thanks for your response.

1) I typically go straight to a custom URL advanced search that's saved in my browser history. I almost never use the regular search.

2) I use the same custom URL for most of my searches (random sentences not translated to Marathi), but sometimes I use specific words.

3) It wouldn't make a difference in my specific case, because I would probably continue to use the custom URL (it's only a couple of keys away for me). But if such a thing were to be implemented, it would be more convenient for me in case I lose the custom URL for some reason, or want a quicker way back.

1) When looking for sentences or topics I just want to check, regular search. When looking for sentences to translate, advanced search.
2) I change the settings depending on the type of search I do: by language, by contributor, with or without audio, skip translated sentences, etc.
3) Since I change the settings every time, I don’t see the advantage of keeping my last settings.

However, it'd be helpful if all search preferences could be set from the beginning. Sometimes you need several steps to achieve it. For instance, if you don’t want the translations to be shown, you need to do that in the second screen, once the results from your first search appear.

Since most sentences do not have Finnish translations, and do link to a sentence in English (or some other language) that I understand, I usually just take a random sentence and translate that or a linked sentence. As such, I rarely use search.

Sometimes I search if I want to add or translate sentences with a particular word. I have only used the basic search thus far.
