We do not use uppercase letters in French for language names (ex: français, anglais, russe), so I do not understand why almost every language names begin with one in Tatoeba, I think it should be fixed.

Plus I do not know why but someone (probably an anglophone) has named wrongly the Guadeloupean Creole French language in French. It's just ‘créole guadeloupéen’ and not ‘Créole Guadeloupéen Français’.

I asked Ricardo14 by private message.

If anyone else can help with this (and with UI translations in general), please join Transifex:
https://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/art...ce-translation

There are many languages for which we do not have active UI translators.

Thank you a lot for having sent a private message (and sorry for the late answer)! I see that the issue has been fixed and that lowercase letters has been put, so that is cool.

Where exactly do the language names appear wrong?

In the language selector. If you have the UI in French, every language name is capitalized. Even when they have two words, some have a capital letter on the second word. Like "Chinois Mandarin" when at least it should be "Chinois mandarin".

I guess you can argue that in a dropdown list, it is okay to have the first letter as capital letter. But then we have to figure out something for the homepage because the dropdown lists are integrated in a sentence: https://imgur.com/puABRyk

I was exactly about to argue that :)

However, if we must talk about U.I., I'm much more annoyed by the non-uniformity of the list of languages (some start with a lowercase), but I guess that's a Transiflex problem?
And also about the fact that longer language names are cut in the middle :)

P.S. Since I'm too lazy to open a ticket right now, let me give a candidate simple solution, by suggesting adding a tooltip when hovering a language name.

The name of the languages were modified, but please capitalize the strings in the language dropbox. It's very strange to look at a lowercase list.

And also in the list of languages in the profile.

Actually, I don't know where capitalized language names are a problem on the website, but my guess is that making them lowercase is much worse.

Capitalized language names are a problem when used within a sentence. For instance in the title of the "Browse by language page".

https://tatoeba.org/fra/sentenc...ll_in/cmn/none
→ Toutes les phrases Chinois mandarin (60903 résultats)

In dropdown lists I don't think it's a problem to have capitalized names. I actually don't think it's a problem either to have lowercase names. It's only a problem when capitalization is inconsistent but I agree that I'm more used to seeing capitalized strings in lists.

I'm already fixing them :) Sorry for taking too long

Can you please list here another language names that are either wrong or that were not translated? Thanks!

I've fixed some issues regarding the language names on the French UI (missed translation, wrong translation and capitalization).
I'd would love to get some feedback from you! Please, visit Tatoeba Dev - https://dev.tatoeba.org/fra/sta...es_by_language and check all the language names (you may need to choose the French UI on TatoDev to check them). If there's something wrong, please let me know by replying this post or leaving me a private message - https://tatoeba.org/eng/private...rite/Ricardo14 .

Merci !
