eng > There could be a guest book? (or golden book, not sure how english ppl call it) so contributors, users or just guests could sign it (in any language), share their experience of Tatoeba, thank the hands who made the project come true etc. in a different approach to that of the Wall, since the wall is among others designed to enable discussing features, options and updating news and all that jazz.

fra > Il pourrait y avoir un livre d'or?

"I lived on the streets before Tatoeba, spraying sentences on the walls and on statues of nude people. Now I have a proper place to satisfy my compulsion. Thank you Tatoeba!"

But, seriously, it's a good idea.

+1 :-D

(As for the guest book, I'm not it's necessary. I think the Wall has served well for that purpose in the past and will continue to to do so in the future.)

Hey Swift, I'll try to sell my case...

Well, a guestbook could bring it some more to Tatoeba than just a nickname and a comm left on the Wall, say, [name, age, place, country, mail address, website+ post] allowing people to leave more personal msgs, enabling unregistered visitors to have a little say as well, like I WAS HERE! Doesn't have to be posh either.

Personally, were I to make a post like this out of the blue, I'd it find not too "hot" to have it published between one dealing with the architecture of the system, another one reporting potentially mischievous behaviour, or eventually one about updating [I have got no grievances at all for these being discussed on the Wall, that's not my point :)] It just seemed to me that we could bring up a dedicated space that would be, in a sense, more friendly-wise? I'm aware that there are currently more relevant priorities, but since Tatoeba is aimed at sharing and promoting communication, why not leaving messages for posterity? ;)

Well, in my experience these guest books tend to be stale, spam-ridden and uninteresting.

Of course, should others like it, there is nothing wrong with adding it. Especially since it could be given an unobtrusive link below the latest Wall messages links. You do make a valid point about the friendliness[1] and as Tatoeba takes on more users, it may well serve the Wall to be split up along topical lines.

Should it prove popular with newcomers, it might actually make a useful tool to alert them of the project documentation and their profile. Perhaps signing the guest book would include their user profile to encourage them to say something about themselves.

You haven't quite sold me, but I may be warming up to the idea. :-)

[1] Personally I'd rather improve the culture on the wall than retreat with the friendly interactions that used to dominate this venue to another venue.

What the website really needs might be a full-fledged forum.

There's already a ticket for that.

You made some points, especially regarding that of splitting up the Wall along segmented topics, which I believe to be a different matter though (sorta). But still your 'warming up' is most appreciated.
