So literally "You catch the cuckoo?" Or "The cuckoo brings that to you?" Or something else?
What's the etymology of this phrase, I wonder?
Literally it can be translated as something like, "May the cuckoo take you [for] that." The cuckoo means the devil. In the past, people didn't like to use the word "devil" and used to replace it with other words. So a very loose translations would be: "If what you're saying is true, may the devil take you away."
