Since you changed your sentence it was deleted as a copy of #3144618
Horus also unlinked the sentences he linked before. But please note that Horus only relinked the links he created but not the links you or other people made. So now there are some problems

The censorship on Tatoeba is quite vague. Some sentences like the one mentioned by Impersonator are being deleted, others like #4111307 and #3459609 are considered as freedom of expression. So you could chance it.

Hi, damascene

Nice to see you here and that's a pity that you are disappointed.
Here I share some of my thoughts about what you wrote.
1) GPL license is used for software, it's not something appropriate for Tatoeba, I think. Creative Commons licenses are good for all kinds of creative works. There is CC BY-NC 2.0 that is for uncommercial use but Tatoeba permits to use its data for other projects (even commercial) so if you contribute sentences you have to agree with that.

2) We don't split Arabic language but represent the current situation as other qualified linguists do. You may have no trouble speaking Arabic from different countries but for me they are really different. For example, تذهب الآن إلى السوق in Syrian Arabic would be انت هلق بروح ع السوق and in Saudi Arabia انت دخّين تروح ع السوق
There are even differences in pronounciation, for example ق in Saudi Arabia sounds different from how it's pronounced in Syria. Or ج in Egypt and in other countries.
Also there are differences in grammar and vocabulary is totally different.

3) It takes some time to get used to the rules but we all obey them.
Anyway your contribution is valuable and as a student of Arabic I read your sentences too. Thank you.

Well, I don't see the word "dialect" this way. To me it's a synonym of variety. For example, when I was studying Spanish I talked to many people (also teachers) and they used to say "кастильский диалект" (Castilian Spanish in the sense of Spanish spoken in all of Spain) or "латиноамериканский диалект" (Spanish spoken in Latin America) without denoting any as inferior. It's not very accurate but enough in the first approximation for people who start from zero. Having said that, I admit that some Arabic varieties are so different that we could consider them as different languages.
The most difficult thing is to not make a mess by creating new languages in Tatoeba, because most people can easily get confused. For example, if we were to represent all varieties of Nahuatl in Tatoeba it would be a total mess to me (I would prefer tags for dialects that are mutually intelligible).

I've read this discussion. First of all, I don't agree that Arabic dialects differ as much as British and Australian English. It's simply untrue. For example, people from Syria don't understand people from Morocco. I can't say that Egyptian Arabic is close to Gulf Arabic either. I understand that Egyptian dialect is understandable because of TV and movies but it doesn't mean that the dialects are similar. I also understand that Arabs don't like to divide their language into dialects as Western linguists do just because they consider dialect as "language without grammar" (in the sense that colloquial languages are simpler in grammar). Another reason is that during colonial period some varieties were raised and imposed by colonial governments. For example, students in Algeria were prohibited from learning Classical Arabic but they were taught colloquial Maghrebi Arabic. But I still think we should stick to ISO. Only this way we can have a clear idea of what Arabic languages are in terms of linguistics.

What's wrong with Egyptian Arabic, Gulf Arabic, Levantine Arabic etc? They all differ from Modern Standart Arabic and have ISO codes. I prefer these names (without parentheses). If we talk about how different are Bahraini Arabic and Kuwait Arabic, it's enough to say that these dialects are mutually intelligible. They may have some differences in vocabulary or slight differences in grammar but we can tag them. I don't see any problem here.

Let's find out what's the problem. I will PM you.

Yes, you should organize your favorites first.
I tried these settings for your example http://pastebin.com/CHQJZJ1X
and I got 3 Catalan sentences that are translated into Spanish

Right, I just pointed it out since the question was about a tag that specifies an interlocutor and not a speaker.

odexed odexed 2016-aprilo-12 2016-aprilo-12 11:08:44 UTC link Konstanta ligilo

No, but some people may confuse "said by male" with "said to male". That's why I prefer to use 'male speaker'

odexed odexed 2016-aprilo-12 2016-aprilo-12 10:37:05 UTC link Konstanta ligilo

You may fuse them but people will likely tag their sentence as they prefer. And it's OK as long as other people get the right meaning of the tags.

odexed odexed 2016-aprilo-12 2016-aprilo-12 10:26:47 UTC link Konstanta ligilo

'said to male' is not the same as 'said by male'

** Easy way to make your own Anki deck that includes all the sentences you want from Tatoeba with audio **

Someone already asked about this feature and I decided to make a program for it. It's not perfect but I tried it and found quite useful for me. I tested it under Windows 7. It should work under any other common operating system since it's written in Python 2.7
If you don't know what Anki is, read this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anki_(software)
You can import as many sentences as you want from any list or favorite page (I tested it with https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences_lists/show/4022 and https://tatoeba.org/eng/favorites/of_user/odexed )

** Short instruction for Windows users **

1. You are supposed to have Anki installed in your computer. If not, you can get it here http://ankisrs.net/ It's easy to install.

2. If you don't have Python or it's not 2x you can just download this zip archive
https://drive.google.com/file/d...ew?usp=sharing

3. Unzip it into any folder and open Tatoeba_anki.py with any text editor (I recommend you to do it with Notepad++)
All you need to do is to edit at least 4 variables on the top of the file. For example, you want to make Anki cards from the quotes of Barack Obama with audio and translations into your language. You set the first variable UrlListOfSentences = 'https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc...ow/4022/none/'
If your native language is French and you only interested in English sentences from this list, set
srclang = ["en"] (it should be in square brackets because you can set several languages like srclang = ["en","es"] )
set audio3letterslangcodes = ["eng"] (this will be the same as srclang but in 3 letter language codes as it is in Tatoeba)
and targetlang = "fr" (only one target language per deck)

Important! If you set srclang you should set audio3letterslangcodes accordingly.

4. Save the file and close it. Run Prepare_deck.bat and wait for a while.
If program works correctly you should see a black console window that will close in a while. After this you will see a new folder 'foranki' in the same directory. This folder contains the csv file and media files with audio.

Important! I recommend you to edit and save the file with Notepad++ because default Notepad includes BOM information when you save it. You can also use any Python IDE to edit it.

5. Copy all mp3 files into Anki media folder (it's called collection.media and you can usually find it in your Documents folder) manually if you didn't set copymediafilestoankifolder = True and the ankimediafolder variable. If you set these variables just skip this step.

6. Open Anki and import new deck of cards. Choose 'exampledeck.csv' as a source.

*** If you have another Operating system ***
You can get the source code here https://github.com/alexanderk40...deckgeneration
and edit it in the way you want. It should work with most Python varieties 2x.

Once you imported the deck, you can export it as apkg file and use in your cellphone. I also tested it.
