Tiu frazo estas en ordo, ĉar ekvivalenta kun "alvenis en la stacio".

Se "alvenis en la stacio", do devus esti "alvenis en la stacion". Temas pri direkto, moviĝo de unu loko al alia loko. Komparu, ekzemple:

Se vi scipovas la francan, bonvolu kompari la vortojn "venir" kaj "arriver". Kompreneble "ili venis al la stacio kaj venis en la stacion" sed "alvenis" (arrivaient) tro malfrue.
Nu, mi memoras, ke ni jam antaŭe diskutis tion... kaj ne konsentis. Nu, ne gravas.
