Is Pascua really Christmas? I would have guessed otherwise.

I am not sure as to the origin of this Chavacano word. But that's how it's said in Chavacano. We even greet 'Felices Pascua y Prospero Año Nuevo' (Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year).

According to a dictionary, Pascua can both mean 'Christmas' and 'Easter'. Here's the link:www.spanishdict.com/translate/pascua

I guess in Portuguese there's Páscoa and it means Easter.

Interesting.
Wikipedia dice: ( con enfoque demasiado hispanocéntrico ?)
"A veces, el nombre Pascua se ha extendido a otras celebraciones cristianas, como Navidad (el nacimiento de Jesús) o Pentecostés (la venida del Espíritu Santo). Por ejemplo en Chile, el término Pascua se aplica coloquialmente a la Navidad, mientras que a la Pascua se le llama «Pascua de Resurrección»."

They say that the version of Chavacano spoken in my city is more related to Mexican Spanish than to the Castillian (European). Perhaps that's the reason why Christmas is called 'Pascua' in Chavacano. The question is: How is the Spanish spoken in Chile related to that spoken in Mexico?

P.S. In Spain, I believe Christmas is 'navidad', right?
