The translation of とてない as just “not” is kinda just taking the とて and ignoring it. I really think this should be “not even a day”, instead of “not a day”. But perhaps its just a degree of emphasis in the Japanese that isn’t being translated as opposed to meaning.
Oh I thought Professor Tanaka had Japanese students write a sentence and then translate it into English?
