I think the translation is too literal, and should be something like "A close relationship is very important for kids."
When I've seen スキンシップ used it's been in the context of touching, bathing together, and such like things.
I agree, but I think "skin contact" is too 直訳.
What about 'touching'.
c.f. Early childhood educators are aware of the important role touching plays in child development, nurturance, and guidance.
I think that's better. GG5 has "emotional communication 《between mother and child》 through skin contact; physical [skin, body] contact." and 中辞典 has "《constant》 physical [personal] contact 《between mother and infant》; togetherness".
It's a highly nuanced term.
Perhaps turn it around: "Physical contact with a child is very important."
> Perhaps turn it around: "Physical contact with a child is very important."
That sounds good to me.
