Auf die Goldwaage gelegt, und aus dem Englischen übersetzt, müsste der Satz wohl lauten: "Tom ist ein entfernter Verwandter von mir".

Sonst würde im Englischen wohl so etwas stehen wie: "Tom is one of my distant relatives". Ob das erheblich ist, will ich nicht beurteilen.

Ich hoffe, es geht Dir gut. Schon lange nicht mehr "gesehen".

@raggione Der Satz ist einwandfrei und hört sich literarisch an,so wie er jetzt steht.
Dein Vorschlag "ein entfernter Verwandter von mir" hört sich eher mundsprachlich an. Die Bedeutung ist dieselbe.
Im Englischen, mit oder ohne Goldwaage, sehe ich keinen erklärbaren Unterschied zwischen "a distant relative of mine" und "one of my distant relatives".
