In Tatoeba, it doesn't matter which sentence was the original sentence that started the thread. Everyone decides which sentence he or she wishes to translate.

This is why the Dutch sentence can influence only sentences which are directly translated from it (and are linked to it), and not from any other languages.

Now, regarding "his" or "her". You are right, English, German and other languages decide whether it's his or her according to the subject of the sentence. French is different. In French, it's "her" or "his" only according to the noun described (if the noun is male by gender, it will be "son" - even if the subject of the sentence is a woman).
