The present and past tense of "read" are spelled the same, but the audio corresponds to the past tense. Of the linked sentences in the languages I know (or can figure out based on other languages I know), I only see Belarusian and Russian sentences that are in the present tense. I will relink them to "I am reading a book while I eat."

Yes, it would be possible to interpret the written sentence as being in the simple present if we didn't have audio. But "I read a book whenever I eat" would be less ambiguous.

In addition to what AlanF_US said this would more likely be present tense as well as past tense if this said "books" instead of "a book."
So, now you disconnected correct translations from 2013, because the added audio in 2016 says otherwise.
