Dear Tatoebans,
Today I received tragic news about Ricardo :'( He is no longer with us. He had a heart attack and passed away a few weeks ago, on January 25.
I will hold a live stream in his memory this Sunday (February 13) at 13:00 UTC.
https://youtu.be/YPU6cqkRSmU
That day would have been his 35th birthday (#10631594).
I'm so sorry to hear that. He was kind and a diligent man.
May he rest in peace.
We need more people as passionate and helpful as him in this world. In Tatoeba alone, he's been such a great help, as I'm sure he was to many other people outside as well.
Obrigado, Ryck... <3
I'm really sorry to hear about that. That's really sad.
I'm shocked. Why is this world so horrible? Goodbye, my friend. 😢
I met him in 2010 and we'd been friends ever since... He was a good person, always wanting to help and to learn new things... I had wondered why he didn't answer to my messages... now I know...
Rest in peace my friend.
Ow, that's terrible news :( I had several message exchanges with him over time, and we worked together on some sentences and translations :( he will surely be missed
:( It's always painful hearing a young person passed away. :(
This is unbelievable and very sad news. I have nothing but good memories of Ricardo, in the few interactions we've had, and the way I've seen how greatly appreciated he was.
You will be missed, Ryck!
I'd also like to add that I'll always remember his immense passion towards the Tatoeba project and languages in general.
How awful! What a loss for us, for his other friends, and for his family. Thank you for letting us know and arranging a tribute, Trang.
I'm really sorry to hear that. Rest in peace.
Many times ago, he asked me to translate his favorite sentences:
https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences_lists/show/8516
Perhaps, it would be a good idea to translate our favorites among his favorites in our native language.
Good idea. I translated into English the non-English sentences lacking an English translation.
I agree with this. Today I added some translations into Italian to some of his English sentences, and I plan to translate more soon.
I’ll work on translating them too
I started translating his longest untranslated sentences instead. Many of them show his way of seeing the world.
That's an excellent idea, I think he would be very happy about this.
Oh, that's terrible news. He always seemed like the nicest, friendliest guy. From what little I know of him, my impression was that he took considerable joy in life, at least some of the time. It's very unfortunate that this was his end, so early. Life makes no sense.
I think it's a good time to get around to translating the sentences he wanted translated - the ones he would DM active users with. I didn't always get around to translating them when he sent them out, though I did do some of them.
As Jews say, may his memory be a blessing.
I'm shocked to read this.
He was always straightforwardly friendly and encouraging to me, particularly when I was new here.
He seemed like a great bloke. It's very sad news.
I feel very sad to hear about his loss. He had many kind words for me too. I wish I could have talked to him more. Whenever I think about that, tears well up in my eyes. I also want to know more about how he sees the world, so I’ll try to translate his sentences too.
It might be inappropriate, but I want to tell him something:
Ryck, I’m really glad that I got to meet you here, to have learned with you, and to have shared a smile with you. ありがとう。
I'm very saddenned to hear this. Ricardo was perhaps the Tatoeba member dearest to me, and we had such good rapport. I worked with him extensively, both before and after joining the language team, and I could not have asked for a better, friendlier partner.
We're all improverished by his loss.
Very sad to hear that, so sad.
Rest in peace Ricardo.
:-(
I just saw the stream notification... I thought this cannot be. So it's true...
It would be so much easier if he were still here with us, I hope we can live up to his kind and enthusiastic legacy. :'(
Quelle tristesse… Ce sont toujours les meilleurs qui partent en premier. :'-(
I will miss Rikardo's tropikal Latinate character at Tatoeba. He made me feel at home in Brazilo. Maybe, he is now twinkling energy light in a different universo... Adiaŭ!
I'm sorry and very sad to learn that. I have known Ricardo ever since I joined this website almost ten years ago in 2012. He was a true friend (both on this website and on social media). I remember his availability to help everyone at any moment, his utmost diligence to do everything he could to help someone with anything they needed. I remember his efforts to add some of the most undervalued and least known languages to Tatoeba. I remember his positiveness, his patience and his tirelessness. He truly was one of the best online friends I've ever had and one of the few people who make everyone love this website. Rest in peace, Ricardo. Sgunfu deg talwit a Ricardo.Descanse em paz querido irmão. Seu irmão da África.
Ég vona honum það besta, hvar sem hann er.
That news made me feel so bad. I think he could be friends with anyone, because he was always a perfect gentleman and friendly to everyone. Descanse em paz, meu amigo.
This is very bad news. I am really shocked, it is hard to believe... He was so young...
He was such a polite and friendly person, he will be missed here.
We became friends on Tatoeba as well, on Facebook and he even invited me to his projects. I always gladly translated for him, which he was thankful for. He was very enthusiastic about foreign languages, and I think he wanted to learn as much languages as possible.
What else to say, I really lack words... Just Rest in peace, dear Ricardo
I'm so sad to hear that...He was really kind.
愿这位和蔼的人安息。
Goodbye:(
