– jan pali pi kama sona = A worker which studies (their work is not necessarily studying)
– jan pi kama sona = A person which studies (A student)
– jan pi open kama sona = A person which starts to study (komencanto)
– jan pi pali pi kama sona = A person which works on studying. (maybe what you mean by "studento", but it may not imply your work is studying, maybe you're some researcher on the field, say, an epistemologist)
– jan pi kama sona pali = A person which studies professionally. (This is probably what you aimed for with "studento")

Don't confuse "kama" with "open". "kama sona" means "learn". You can be not a starter anymore, but still have various things to learn (intermediate (insa) an advanced (sewi, suli) knowledge). For "starter", "one who is starting to learn", toki pona has "open kama sona" = starting the process of learning (but not "starting to know").

You're not a "starter" anymore, your suggestions are those from an intermediate-advanced knowledge of toki pona, but you're still a "learner". Don't stop learning.
