@raggione Why did you use the verb "schenken"? Does it translate to "I give you an umlaut"?

Die Vögel -The birds (and depending on accentuation - Those birds)

Yes, I would also opt for "Vögel trinken ...", without the definite article, to make it a strict translation.
Although in a kind of loose way of speaking one could accept "die Vögel" as referring to birds in general, when I think about it. Probably more in regional and colloquial variants of German.

Dieser Satz muß noch an die Übersetzungen angepaßt werden:

→ Vögel trinken Wasser.

Ein bißchen seltsam finde ich den Satz schon.
