If you look up words in the dictionary every word with at least two sylabals has exactly one stress mark. But if the word (maybe only verbs, I'm not sure on this) is followed by something like "me", "mine", "yours" etc. there is an additional stress mark at the last sylable ("το" means "it", which fits in this category). So I think, piterkeo is right.

Yes. They are important in Greek language. As far as I know, Greek people might not understand a word if it is stressed the wrong way (for example Germans are prone to pronounce ευχαριστώ (thank you) like ευχαρίστω which sounds for Greeks like ευχαρίστως (you are welcome). There are even several words that differ only by stress marks (ουρά (queue) vs. ούρα (hooray)).
